Totaled last November, decided to upgrade.
Big time lurker, never sure where to comment/post/contribute, but I thought I'd share my recent foray into the 1LE.
My 2017 2SS was totaled last November, and there weren't a whole lot of similar options to match it, so I decided to get a 2018 2SS 1LE. It's my first manual transmission, too. Not sure it was the right call to learn with 455HP, but we're here. The first three photos are my previous baby, and the last one is my new boo. https://imgur.com/a/E85qB6p Last edited by tferguson; 02-18-2020 at 10:05 AM. Reason: I have no idea how to add photos. |

Welcome...I'm new here, too. Just picked up a 19 2SS 1LE a week ago. I have had a few manual transmission trucks, but it's been awhile and I'm a little rusty at times. I love this car...I just want to drive it..

Shift point a little weird up top but otherwise one of the most easiest manual transmissions ive driven. You want to feel a shit box of a trans go get in a mustang GT and try shifting when the drive train slack dosnt want you too lol

Congrats. The SS 1LE is awesome. My only real compliant with the manual transmission in these cars is the clutch is a little on the ON/OFF side of things. It's somewhat similar to an aftermarket TD clutch. Not as stiff as my old McLeod RST, but more ON/OFF than the RST, and it engages at the top of the pedals range like the RST did.
Still being sort of ON/OFF makes it a little bit of a PITA to get really consistent clean starts in traffic as there's not much feel in the pedal before it engages. Especially wheen trying to quickly make a turn into oncoming traffic. Sometimes you look like a newb at driving a manual because you tend to over-rev the motor a little bit from a stand-still to make sure you don't stall. There's more thought involved in letting off the clutch in these cars than there is in most other factory manual transmission cars. (that can also be an electric TB issue as well) I'm 37 and Ive had manual cars since I was 16 and learned to drive at probably 8 or 9 in a old 73 Dodge truck with a manual transmission so driving a stick shift car is in no way a new thing for me. But I don't want to complian too much. Overall I find this transmission to be excellent. Much improved street manners and ease of use over a T56. Very easy to bang gears with and easy to live with in normal driving once your moving. The ON/OFF clutch isn't really a deal breaker, and is a small gripe, but I do find it a little bit annoying. And no I haven't stalled this car out yet. |

You’ll be fine with learning manual on the 1LE. The 6th gen clutch is MUCH smoother than the 5th gen 1LE clutch. As for learning, just hit a empty parking lot, and do lots of starts and stops. Just pretend that you’re at a stop light. Practice pulling into parking spots. Just do anything that requires you to work that clutch until it becomes muscle memory. You’ll get to the point where manual becomes so natural, it’ll be the automatic’s that feel weird to you. You’ll be feeling for a clutch that isn’t there... Shaking the automatic shifter to make sure it’s in neutral... Etc, etc...
