Stupid question

I noticed water leaking through the base of the muffler of my ZL1 -- not the tip but the base of it where it connects to the pipes. Should I be worried?

When does it do it? It is probably condensation.

Via lightning from a large Hammer.

condensation, and mufflers are designed to leak that way to prevent them from rusting out..

Took some pictures -- the black area at the base of the muffler -- have it same spot both sides so it must be normal.

I realize this is probably rudimentary stuff. I love my car but I have to admit I don't work on them.

I always thought condensation came out through the tailpipe itself.

it is a "weep hole" for water to escape at the lowest point of the muffler. Since our mufflers angle up, the water will have a tendency to collect and purge easily from this location. Most aftermarket systems like the last Corsa and Magnaflow system I have installed have weep holes in various locations depending upon the orientation of the muffler.

I always buy top tier fuel or from places I have had good experience with in the past. But there was one time where gas was going up & I saved $.20 some odds cents fueling up at a grocery store. That is the only time I had water pouring out of the muffler. Have never bought gas there again & it has not happened since either. This is in a GMC truck with a 6.2 not a ZL1, but thought I would throw it out there.

My ZL1 has the same black spots on both mufflers.
