ZL1 M6 Trans Question

Quick question -

Pulled the ZL1 out of the garage for the first time in a week due to rainstorms.

Car has 400 miles on it ---

Shifted from first to 2nd gear on my street out of the neighborhood and it seemed WAY more notchy than I am used to. Sounded sort of odd as well. It seemed to be ok after that, but I have noticed that shifting into 2nd from first is notchier than other gears.

Is 2nd gear extremely notchy compared to the other gears in your ZL1s? Especially after sitting for a week or two?

Is this something I should be worried about?

No not yet. One thing you must do with a ZL1 and that is drive the car, HARD! In other words don't baby it. Might have been the temperature that day?

Tremec transmissions are notchy especially when cold from first to second. Known issue in all of them (and normal).

Once I get close to the 180* mark she's like butter.

If my 1LE has sat all week and I hop on the road, the first few miles of gear changes feel a bit...chunky. After everything is up to temp though it feels great. No worries. It just needs to get the oil moving and the temp up.

Thank you guys very much - I feel a lot better now. Much appreciated.

And I have noticed that I baby the car quite a bit when I first get into it, and loosen up and relax as I get a couple miles under my belt. This is my first manual car, and I am not completely used to it yet. This doesn't result with the smoothest, quickest shifting.

I do love it though.

Yes it is normal like everyone else has stated. It is the synchros not the gears which the colder they are the more restricted they*will be until the tranny gets warmed up.

I now have had my 1LE for a month with 1160 miles. The car is my DD and I have noticed the same issue. I have read about people switching the trans fluid to a good synthetic and they stated the the shifting became a lot smother. I am going to switch to Redline at 1500 miles and will post my experience. The ZL1 is an awesome Camaro, I waived at one today and he waived back! Gave me a grin!!!!!!!
