I'm not 100% certain this is right but I don't think insurance rates will be impacted just because a Camaro is in an accident. If it is not the fault of the person driving the Camaro, there should be no "strikes" against the car. In other words, I don't know how an insurance company can categorize Camaros as a high-risk simply because they have been involved in accidents. Now, if all these accidents were the faults of the drivers in the Camaros, that would be a different story. For instance, if you have a bunch of folks running off the road and smashing into trees, this could be a strike. I would think that the poor people who have been hit in their new Camaro would have been hit regardless of what car they were driving.

Yep, I can't imagine that it has anything to do with being a Camaro, and of course being a Camaro forum, all you hear about are the Camaros getting hit. It's not like we were hotrodding. Just stupid luck that our lives intersected with that of some moron who doesn't know how to drive. Shouldn't affect insurance rates unless you see Camaros hitting others a lot or Camaros in wrecks all by themselves because of the way people are driving them.

The shop said it had to have damage of at least 75% of the value of the car to be totaled, so I'm not sure how this is all going to work out. He does not think we are quite there, but I am going to fight for it.

Talk to the shop owner and see how willing he is to truly go to the mat on the FULL damage of the accident. I had one repair job started on a car with 50% damage and by the time we got done with the repair it was well over totalling. Remind him that you REALLY want the car totalled and that you need to know for sure that its not going to be ANY more than what he has estimated.

Good luck with the fight!

On another note, I'm starting to see the same patterns with camaros that my wife and I see with corvettes. Its amazing how many people can't see a *** yellow corvette driving down the road and pull out in front. We've come to believe it is because they "know" we will slow down because we don't want our car damaged. Had a lady turn very wide last night and almost get me into the curb because she wanted my lane!

Don't forget to mention your gonna claim diminished value. Maybe the damages plus the diminished value will add up to 75%. Although I'm told you can't claim that till the car is completely fixed so not sure how that'll work. But worth a shot.

I am so sorry to hear about your wreck. That is a whole lot of damage!! Glad to hear that you were ok. I wish you the best of luck through this whole ordeal. Keep us posted on how things turn out. Even if you get it fixed, it will never be quite the same. If it was me...I would never feel the same about it. SO SO SORRY!! I would definitely be heart broke!

That is the route I am going. Hopefully they will see the light.
