I love the Falkens, but they are in very short supply for our sizes. I gave the Nankang CR-1 a try this weekend. In 5 runs on dusty, slick asphalt they never even broke in - still smooth. Really soft to the touch, though. They were really numb feeling and at least half a second off pace on a 43 second course. Gonna try them again this weekend and see if I can get them to start working. I do have my nationals set of Falkens at this point at least :P

The difference is mostly tires, the Goodyears on the SS 1LE are within 2-5 tenths of the RE71r's. Congrats on the new car.

I would disagree as autox never allows the SC3s to warm up to optimal temps... at least this is true of the compound used for the ZL1 and SLE. I am pretty sure the OEM tire needs more heat vs std SC3s.

I'd put the difference at about 1s per 30 sec if the tires are warmed-up to optimal and it only gets worse from there. 20s are also heavier and taller, neither of which is good. OEM SC3s will not be competitive IME.

Same with bfg rivals in autocross. Three laps and third is best. On a warm day, a friend who is always faster by a lot, I beat on a 45 second fast course in the morning. I was on 100 lap stones, he was on relatively new bfgs that didn’t heat up till afternoon.

So its the Falken 660s that you guys are running right now? What sizes and what wheels and sizes on your SS 1LE and standard ZL1s? I was thinking 305 sqaure on some 19s?

Basically this is my first set of autocross tires and wheels but I want to be able to run AS class and trying to figure out the right way to go. The rules only allow so many changes to tire sizes and wheels

For street you'll have to get 19s with the same width as stock and offset can only vary by 7mm.

Most seem to run stock width in 19" diameter but some are going 275 front because of availability.

You could also run CAM-C and have an easier PAX and very few limits on mods.

I have a set of 18x11 et35 Apex SM-10 Camaro-specific wheels I'm looking to sell if you're interested, would ship directly to you from Apex in about a week or two. I got in on the group buy ($400 off + free shipping) I'd be willing to pass on.

You could also get the ZLE rear subframe bushings in CAM-C, that's a nice improvement for ax... SLE has a GMPP ax rear diff tune, but not sure that can be applied to ZL1s.

I have thought about moving to CAM C but haven't made the jump, I don't really plan on modding but that is always a possibility for the future.

I will pass on the wheels, I am def going to go with 19s I think. Thank you for the offer though.

So getting a set of 19 inch wheels in stock widths with RT660s in 275/35/19 for the front and 295/35/19 for the rear may be my best choice?

I am currently running stock wheels and stock tires on my ZL1 in stock sizes (Supercar3)

Look for AustinTXracer's post on tire size, he posted his setup a few pages back...

If going CAM-C you could run 315/30/19 or 315/30/18 square, AND have an easier PAX, AND be able to install the ZLE rear subframe bushings, etc..

AS has a tougher PAX vs CAM-C and the ZL1 isn't going to be super competitive in that class imo...

Thank you I will take a look. And you are right, I will strongly consider it.

I would agree with the Rivals. I don't think these cars are really heavy enough to really get them in their optimal heat range quickly.

I had a different result with my test between Nankang and Falken this weekend. I was 0.2 sec quicker on the CR-1 and the local national champs were 0.5 sec quicker on the CR-1. Wheels were the same(18x11), tires the same size(315/30R18), each driver alternated between the tires in the morning and then the afternoon(2runs each tire in am and pm).

The CR-1s seem to need more camber to wear more even. I had one Falken start to delaminate on the left front on a left turn heavy course. Less than 12 miles on the tire(12-0.8mi laps). Their date code is 2nd week of 21.

This is why I have both brands as well. I just need to find what they want and see which ones to take to nats. My Falkens ran great until my codriver killed them in a 75MPH sideways slide to a stop - all 4 tires flat spotted and both fronts corded. Super nice wear and excellent grip right up until that moment :(

More like *non-existent supply* i ordered another set and they won't be here until late August. Not much I can do. Hopefully Yokohama decides to make the A052 in big boy 19" sizes.

Anyway heres a video of my latest race. Got top pax again but barely. Course was on a lot we normally don't use. Full of marbles and not much grip anywhere. I went maybe 50mph. This run is 4 tenths slower than my fastest but I practically drifted half of the run. Was not much fun.

Tire Rack does list a 295/30R20 Yokohama A052 now, but it seems they haven't actually received any yet. That's likely a good option for our cars.
