Had a dealer tell me...

So the dealer told me the following. I just thought it was kind of interesting. Again- not sure how accurate the statement is but for fun I passed it on.

"There are currently over 7,000 preowned new style Chevy camaro's on the market making it the most traded in sports car ever."

wouldnt doubt it. see quite a few of them come thru my clients dealership every day. most of the time its due to the fact that they wanted a cheaper payment or gotta drive a new car every 2 years

That can be interpreted in a half dozen different ways. Did the dealer tell you why they were traded? Could've been because people couldn't afford them (monthly payment / insurance), traded a V6 for a V8, too much car to handle, too much of a "pillbox" experience, got bored with them. I suppose, it really doesn't matter. If there are that many 5th Gen's sitting, there's less incentive for a dealer to want to cut a deal - I suppose. Then again, if your dealer doesn't have any sitting, that's a good thing.

Numbers mean nothing compared to percentages also.

If it's the top selling car, 7000 is like 10% of 1 years sales? 5000 mustang trades may be 15-20% of it's yearly sales.

My numbers are bad, please forgive me but it makes my point.

Hmmmmm

I'm not sure how any salesman would know which car is or isn't the most traded vehicle. Typically, the resale or trade-in value could give you a clue....price and demand! However, a recent study I read shows that Camaros have an exceptionally low depreciation factor and high value retainability which wouldn't support the claim of huge inventories of used vehicles. Who knows and who really cares?

I found: http://www.leftlanenews.com/u-s-depa...s-program.html pertaining to the most traded in vehicle and the Camaro isn't on the list...for what it's worth.

Rental fleets may be "turning over" for the model year as well...that is always a factor.

I think the salesman is full of shit. Sales people get turned over so fast these days how would he know. I doubt the finance manager would even know. Around me I have 6 or 7 big dealers and I rarely see a used one on the lot. I call BS.

Who cares? It doesn't mean the car sucks. Its just the way society is these days with popular products. Out with the old in with the new. We do not need to justify the numbers. Besides, if it were the mustang that was the most traded, there would be no justification as to why, only "ha ha mustang sucks" Some people are so sensitive.

My father-in-law always says the Mustang is the #1 selling sports car because of how often they are traded it and re-purchased, inflating the numbers. He hates Ford, he drove a '69 Chevelle with a 396 "back in the day."

That report is from 2009, so not sure how many 5th Gens were out at that time.
