Used car Emissions?

I have a 1987 Corvette and for some reason I didn't have to do emissions for 2012. Does that mean I will ever have to do emissions? I am curious because I want to do some mods but have no clue! On the aircarecolorado page they say no emissions ONLY for vehicles 1976 and older. Yet they didn't have my do emissions

It's every other year for emissions test. If you are due next year and you pass by roadside tester several times and pass then you will not have to take it in for testing.

Thank you, it's my first car and know little to nothing about emissions!
