Broke a wheel stud/dealers are insane

So yesterday I broke a rear wheel stud. Oh well. Ive always wanted to learn how to replace them myself but since this years first autox event is coming up I didnt want to feel rushed or end up getting stuck. So I took it to the dealer, its one wheel stud, how bad could it be (how naive). When i dropped it off they said it would probably be like $109 plus the part, kinda steep in my mind but it is what it is. I go home and get a call and they say its actually going to be $335 before tax. Nice. Said it was going to take an hour and a half and charged me $210 an hour for labor. Wouldnt have brought it there if I knew that. I pick the car up and drive home. Where I noticed my left outer exhaust tip was facing the ground. For $210 an hour they couldnt even tighten my exhaust back up properly. Cant believe they are charging that much for labor. I just cant justify going back unless I absolutely need to.

Why go a dealer? No regular shops around?

Dealers are so stupid I hate them. I have a 2004 BMW that has an airbag light on (it turns on if you ever disconnect the seats). I went into BMW to see if they would reset it for me, they wanted to charge me 1 hour of labor to reset the airbag light, which should take no more than 4 minutes if you include the time to drive the car in and out of the service center.

Instead of just doing it and charging me like $30 they basically decide to just annoy me and I will never go back to that place again. I can reset it myself but you have to dl some software and it can only be installed on a windows 98 machine or something. Great way to lose customers.

I don't mind paying, but I'm not paying for 1 hour of labor for 5 minutes of work.

I'm a tech @ an Infiniti dealer and I sure as hell don't make $210 and hour. Why is it you think they should do anything for you for free? Go buy some tools and a jack and do it yourself.

He said it wasn't "tightened back up" which means that the dealership loosened it / moved it and didn't return it back to the state it was in.

Thank you ember. My exhaust was removed during the service and not properly tightened when the service was completed. At $210 an hour for service something as simple as putting everything back properly isnt too much to ask for.

Bring them an invoice for your time to correct their mistake. I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

And then never go back there.

Like the OP, I usually do these things myself. In that context, $335 is absurd.
But my first guess when I saw this thread was $800.
OP, I congratulate you for getting out the door for less than $500

That's crazy...! Shop rates are getting out of control everywhere though. I needed my head unit flashed on my Harley. Took it in yesterday. $150/hour is their shop rates now. I remember when it used to be $80/hour
