Stock Diff and axles 440 RWHP

Just purchased a 2010 2SS with auto trans. I will be daily driving the car in the summer and bracket racing 6-8 time year. My plan for the car is CAI, Headers, and maybe gears this year and a GPI VVT 1 cam next year.

I've heard the rear differential and axles are a weak point. I'm curious if anyone has a similar setup power wise and had a differential or axle failure?

I'm hoping that the stock differential with an eaton true trac limited slip and a reinforced rear differential cover (LPE , PCE or other) will survive this level of power and repeated launches on drag radials. A full upgrade to a new diff and axles are incredibly expensive (5000+ for diff and axles). I read that the Z28 axles will fit the stock SS differential and are not that expensive. If anyone can confirm that I'd appreciate it.

I plan to pull the cradle and install BMR bushings in the cradle and differential. It will also get their drag pack (LCA, Adjustable shocks, springs, and trailing arms). I'd like to do all the work to the diff at the same time to save labor.

Mines been fine with the last part you mention about BMR upgrades. Just keep that wheel hop under control and should be good without spending the money on axles. I've got more power than your looking at and no issues on stock axles, rear diff has 3:91s with JREs posi mod and go to the track a couple times a year on drag radials. Maybe if you start getting over 600+ rwhp might consider it but plenty on here have way more power than that with stock axles and diff. GL

You should be fine with the stock axles and diff as mentioned above. I am still running everything stock to this date, and so far haven't had any issues. And I drive the car hard! The only thing I did to eliminate the wheel hop, which is what kills the diffs and axles, is install billet aluminum solid cradle mounts, and that did the trick for me, and I'm running MPSS 335's on the rear.

The Z28 and 1LE axles have been discontinued. They had larger outer CV joints.

The cradle bushings, toe rods and trailing arms will go a long way to eliminate wheel hop which will greatly extend the life of a stock axle.

Hendrix offset differential bushings will save your axles and eliminate wheel hop. The differentials simply wear out as they use friction material (clutch packs) rather than worm gears like a Torsen or Truetrac. The latter is simply unavoidable, especially for road course cars. With the age of the 5th gens and them being on owner number three, four or more, it’s more and more common for the one-wheel peel.

Biggest bang for your buck is BMR trailing arms and toe rods. They will pretty much do the trick. Next I’d suggest BMR poly (red) differential bushings. Lastly, poly cradle mounts. Keep the stock diff and axles.

I had my stock axles tear up the axle seals which led to my diff leaking fluid without me knowing and I tore up my diff. Put in a 1le diff, new stock axles, delrin diff bushings and poly motor mounts. Got rid of 90% of my wheel hop (biggest difference for me was the engine mounts, did those separately after the diff bushings). Also worth noting, the 3.91 gear with my heads/cam setup made more of a butt dyno difference than the head/cam did
Edit: also had all stock trail arms/control arms, subframe bushings.
