It caters toward a certain crowd. Especially bigger/taller people.

Their advertising even pushes it toward people who like straight-line performance. There's clearly a market for it...

Mercifully, there are plenty of Camaros and Mustangs out there for the rest of us lol.

The Challenger also fits the average American who is bigger in frame. If you're a big guy and sit in a Camaro or Mustang with Recaro's you basically hate the car. Before I started loosing weight I can confidently state this is/was/can be an issue for most big or overweight humans.

Also to note, GM isn't helping their sales with limited production and next to no allocation for high end models. The chip shortage is real and GM expects it to be an issue well into 2023.

Dodge does a great job at making fantastic commercials for the charger and challenger which they reach hundreds of thousands if not millions of viewers. But it's camaro for me at least I know when I go out my camaro will still be there waiting for me. Unlike the charger and challenger they are the most stolen vehicles in this country, according to the insurance industry 5 times more then any other vehicle with some owners now disconnecting there car batteries to prevent drive off.

I don't wonder. Soccer is the most common/popular sport (all that's required is a ball), rice is the most commonly eaten food. What draws people to the Challenger is the marketing of the Hellcat. The biggest HP numbers is a great marketing tool even if the Challenger's least powerful V8 makes less than 400 HP, people like being associated with high HP monsters. For driving dynamics, the Challenger comes in last place objectively when compared to the other 2 pony cars, but most people that purchase the Challenger aren't really driving enthusiasts, IMO.

Oh and I worked with a guy that had a Charger (but he wanted a Challenger). To give you an idea of his mindset, he absolutely loved riding in my SS Sedan, and he contemplated getting exhaust work done on his V6 Challenger because he hoped it would sound like my LS3.

People have always preferred the bigger muscle cars over pony cars. For example in 1970 the chevelle 2 door outsold the camaro almost 2 to 1. The modern challenger is more like a chevelle than a camaro. The 6th gen camaro is the absolute best performance car gm has ever built, but it does suck to live with, and would never be my daily.

Two things.

First, people underestimate just how effective things like how the most horsepower sells, a la the Hellcat and whatnot. Dodge killed it with advertising and selling what people buy - most people dont give a f- about curb weight when they are shopping. Just those HP/Torque numbers, for muscle cars.

Second...my god, people still think there is ANYTHING they can do to make a V6 sound like a V8? Nobody is getting fooled by that, and they sound like absolute trash.

That's why the saying is, "HP sells cars, TQ wins races" (granted HP will help top speed). I'm ok with someone thinking that peak HP numbers is what makes for a great car. I know the driving characteristics that matter to me. If the Mustang GT500's price was more competitive and it didn't come with a pathetically small gas tank, it would be a harder choice for me. Given that the price of the ZL1 is considerably less than the GT500, it's a no brainer for me.

I imagine this is a big one, but I'm told people get used to it. I test drove one back in 2016, and I admit it was like I was in a tunnel, but as it's going to be a weekend toy, I'm fine with it.

One of my favorite aspects of the car. Makes it feel special but obviously less practical to get in and out of.

Yep, you should hear the folks on the Miata forum. It is not about comfort comparison, it is whether you head will poke through the top.

I remember going to the auto show as a field trip for our marketing class. We made one of my buddies who is 6'4" get into a Saturn Sky. His head was a few inches over the windshield and watching him try to get out was hilarious.
