Pontiac G8 AFM on screen
this video shows the DOD or AFM info screen working on the G8
and another showing stability control you will see the simular screen on the Camaro Pre-production dash cluster Could this be a hint that the Camaro will have the L76? I test drove the G8 GT this weekend, I must say, Very Nice... Interior "A" Power "A-" Exterior "B+" Price "A+" I can't wait to see the G8 GXP

One thing that i noticed with afm is that rpms go up a bit when it engages, then keep going up when you get on the gas. So it acts almost like a downshift when you hit the gas, sorta, kinda, in a way.

"Could this be a hint that the Camaro will have the L76?"
That display on G8 and Camaro is known as DIC (Driver Information Center). You would think it would also display AFM info on Camaros so equipped when the display is in engineering mode. But by itself is not an indicator of Camaro engine choices. All info points to AFM on all auto trans Camaros, except the four cyl. turbo which probably won't make it at all, depending on gas prices. That DIC is where On-Star visually gives turn indications for Turn-by-Turn directions that are sent to the vehicle from the On-Star satellite in combination with audio commands. This is how they ommitted a Navigation screen on the G8 and the Camaro. |

I just bought a G8 GT. The DIC is pretty cool. You can rotate through various screens that have digital speedometer, odometer/tripometer, fuel range, tire pressure, range with a "take a break" reminder, and an options screen. The options allows you to customize things like when the doors lock and unlock, when the lights turn on and off, overspeed and underspeed warnings, and probably some stuff I'm forgetting. The DIC also displays the radio station or cd track you're listening to, the gear you are in, and mode.
One thing that is cool about the G8 that would be nice on the Camaro is the night driving dash. If you press both the up and down buttons that dim or brighten the dash lights it turns off everything except the speedometer and DIC. So, your radio lights, tach, fuel gauge, battery and oil pressure gauges and everything else turn off. I used that feature for the first time last night, pretty sweet. The "sport mode" shifting is also nice. The G8 has a 6 speed automatic with the "sport shift" mode that is actually more like two modes in itself. You can enter in to the mode and it will hold gears longer and not shift when you let off the gas; or, you can manually shift and enter into an almost manual mode. If GM takes a lot of what they put in to the G8 and use it in the Camaros it will be fantastic! |

If it's a full-color LCD screen like it looks like...I can't imagine why you couldn't change the color.

Also the screen in the Camaro is probably white, I think the camera it was taken with may be playing tricks but I cant deny it looks blueish, same goes for the gauge backlights. The background of the screen looks like it may be blue. One thing is right now I have blue gauges and love them. |

No, I know that - I was talking about the spy-pics of the Camaro prototype interiors. Still, the G8 totally kicks a$$!!!

I LOVE IT! I'm really bummed that AFM probably won't be an option on the supposed supercharged motor.... That's a bummer. That's really cool technology.
