Bone stock RS V6 1/4

I know there is a drag forum but the V6 subforum is dead so thought more would see it here.

Bought a brand new 2017 RS V6 a few weeks ago. Just turned 1000 miles so I took it to beech bend for some baseline runs. First pass was my fastest with a 13.8@102. Next month I am getting the GM intake and tune and after some more miles I’ll try again.

Good run, A8 or m6? I’ll be watching for further posts.

What's the best technique to get the fastest times for a V6 A8? How much does the GM intake and tune increase HP? What happens to the gas mileage?

My best time I basically left off of idle. Much preload and it spun. The intake I don’t know the gains but it includes a tune so you don’t get a cel. Gas mileage shouldn’t be effected.

By 'left off of idle' does that mean you give it no gas until you take your foot off the brake then floor the gas? What do you mean by preload, how do get 'much' of it and what spun? If I knew what any of this means, I probably wouldn't be asking how to launch. Thanks for your patience, I never owned a car worth doing this with before.

Preload means one foot on the brake and one on the gas giving a little bit of throttle. I had one foot on the brake and just a little throttle so when the last yellow light comes on I release the brake and floor it at the same time. If it spins any I let off 1/4 throttle about till it hooks then floor it again. It’s kind of trial and error and just practice.

There was a Gen6 with the V6 next to me on the dragstrip one time when my SS was still stock. He ran a 13.8 at 103mph, I thought that was pretty cool that the V6 is a 13 sec car.

After shipping most are about $410-420 online at various stores. From a dealer they are $495.

Cool video, nice run, good to see you beat the 5.0 mustang. You can see me getting into the water box behind you at the line.

Not sure this might help. Look into the rear gear ratio of the 99 Z28 Vert with auto. Mine bone stock ran 13:50’s all day at 128mph in the quarter mile and it was a LS1. I have a feeling if we changed the rear gears the quarters will get faster all around as now they are trying to get better fuel mileage while keeping a horsepower balance. Just a thought, im still lesrning about these as we just bought our first Camaro since 99.

To an extent, moving to a 3.xx gear ratio would improve short distance acceleration at the expense of top end speed....

However, the old cars had the ECU mapped very differently than the 6th gen with it's torque target mapping. So the car may adapt the benefit away (at least in auto mode). Or result in some wonky behavior. So you may need an ECU tune to go along with the rear gears to fix more than just the speedo.
