Poor Satellite Radio Antenna?

Am I the only one experiencing issues or is this common?

In town driving and the reception is very poor with no tall buildings to block the signal?

There is interference from cell towers and you'll get drop outs. There is a filter the dealer can install under warranty to almost fix all the drop outs.

Pulled the paperwork and it says they installed 84601829 N-Filter.

My ‘19 ZL1 vert’s satellite reception is terrible in my suburban neighborhood. Not really sure what to do about it either

My car had a cf cover over the oem shark fin. Picked up a used one and once it was swapped out reception is fine.

My Satellite Radio reception only recently started getting the spotty dropouts in areas where it did not occur in the past. Thankfully, I'm still on the free-trial, completely philosophically opposed to paying $$$ for radio reception!?

Maybe its interference from Elon Musk's starlink satellites or maybe Russian or Chinese military space operations exponentially increasing the space garbage clogging up the skies!?

If you installed a carbon fiber cover of the shark fin or anything of that nature that's the problem.

Excellent point! Carbon fiber is electrically conductive and could act as a shield in the case of the shark-fin antenna cover. I assume GM engineers and designers know this and didn't ship any real, electrically conductive Carbon-fiber shark-fin antenna covers?

My 16 Camaro had no issues, my 16 C7 has no issues but my new 2020 GMC Sierra sucks. I can get out of the truck and be gone 10 minutes, come back and it says on the screen attempting to reconnect and this happened right after I picked up my truck for the free oil change and rotation. I had already complained to my service dept about the issue. XM tells me its a GM radio issue and I believe that since none of my others have problems. I've had them resend the signal at least a dozen times. I happened to me again this morning so I sent my buddy Matt who is a tech and he's going to look into it. He's had many complaints from other customers also.

Yeah my wife's 2019 XC90 never loses reception. I drive a couple of miles to work in the suburbs of ATL and I'm lucky to get to listen to a whole song. Same thing, XM blames GM, GM blames XM but I think it's a GM issue.

Satellite radio is basically digital streaming using a radio signal broadcast transmitted from space.

The finger-pointing & scapegoating almost makes it sound as if XM made some changes to the format of their digital stream broadcast being transmitted and the receiver in some GM cars is having trouble rolling with the changes?

I haven't paid for cable or satellite TV for decades (don't want any of my hard earned money going to benefit USA destroyers like CNN or FoxNews etc) and I'll never pay for Satellite radio. I really just wish that they had put the HD-radio terrestrial receiver in the Camaros.
