ticking noise from under rear when not running
Went out in the garage and heard a ticking noise from under the backend of my ZL1 convertible. It's ticking at 3 or 4 hz. It hasn't been driven since Sunday, so nothing is cooling down. I put it in accessory mode (engine not running) and it stopped. I changed the exhaust valve between tour and sport and could hear it move. Turn acc mode off, and it started ticking again. Haven't disconnected the battery yet. Seems to be coming muffler or gas tank area? Anyone know what it might be? Thanks!

Search is working intermittently on the forums, but found a reference to NPP valve tick, and a fuse 51 for that circuit. Didn't find real info on what that problem actually is - anyone know? Removing the fuse stopped the tick. Not sure what the valve is trying yo do when the car is parked, or why there was a whirring sound. Maybe valve spindle spinning freely inside the valve? I think both sides were ticking, not just one. Don't know if that's a normal symptom of the NPP valve tick (or if any of these symptoms are).

No answer here for you, but that is odd. Hopefully the battery reset will help you out.

Battery was disconnected for at least an hour, and it started ticking again as soon as I reconnected it. Fuse 51 is out and battery is connected now, and no tick. Maybe I'll reinstall fuse 51 tomorrow evening and see if the tick returns.

Going to guess it's something more than an NPP valve issue. Started the car and verified the valves stayed open. When I shut it down, I noticed the passenger air bag light was flickering at about the same rate as the ticking had done (have't put the fuse back in to see if the flicker and tick line up). Even with the car off, dash off, and doors locked, it still flickers. Battery charge is good - it cranks fast and fires right up.
Here's the flickering air bag light: https://youtu.be/RIT0oEWqffM |

That noise in the rear is definitely not normal. Nor is the blinking airbag light. I hate electronic gremlins! They are often hard to diagnose.
As far as I know fuse 51 only applies to the NPP system. I'm afraid its time for the dreaded dealership visit. Good luck and keep us posted.

Car has been at the dealer for a long time now waiting on parts. They think I'll get it back Monday. From what I was told today, there was a short in the underhood fuse box which they said is fairly common. They're replacing the fusebox, the battery which got damaged, and also the exhaust values. I asked the service rep about the Passenger Air Bag light blinking and he said the tech believes the short was causing that too, and we'll find out Monday.

Finally got the car back on Wednesday. They found a short in a seat heater module that feed back into the fuse box causing damage there and feeding 9V to circuits that should have been off. The exhaust valves were hunting for their learned position, presumably due to this short. The seat AC isn't working now, it doesn't blow at all. I'd guess that's either another victim of the short, or possibly something wasn't reconnected when they worked on the seat heater.
