IT will take some getting used to for former f-body Firehawk owners, (my brother is one, and he wasn't sure at first either) and I too had a doubtful initial reaction. But after seeing it again for the 2nd day, it's grown on me, and I see no problem with SLP using 'Firehawk' for the G8.

SLP should be congratulated for their continued involvement in GM products.

Like someone else said, the name doesn't fit.

And the image doesn't either. The G8 is a more mature looking car and to call it by a name associated with the firebird is kinda silly. The two images clash.

Not to mention that G8 with the black hood and those plain jane wheels does not look cool. The blue one and the white one look good. But the red one with the black hood just looks stupid.

Hopefully someone at SLP gets a clue.

What is promising though is that they're offering badass cars straight from the dealer with warranty.

Maybe this will be our Z28.

Like back in the old days when DeLorean proposed offering a big engine as an option to get around the ban on big displacement in little cars.

I personally love it.

I don't care if the name 'fits' or not, it will be badass.

I'd rock it without a second thought.

It's cool, but it doesn't really fit the heritage. I'd like to see Pontiac return with the Firebird, Firehawk, Trans Am, and GTO. I'm more certain of a 2012 Z28 than any of the previous cars, so the future is bleak for a return to Pontiac's classic heritage cars. At least the G8 is hot and makes Pontiac look good.

WOW! I've been reading posts on various threads over this car.

I've come to these conclusions, some of which I'm taking from others;

1. SLP has every right to name a G8 'Firehawk'.
2. Naming a version of the G8 'Firehawk' does not dimish the F-body 'Firehawk' in any way.
3. Just as a few 'SS' owners (myself being one), were "up in arms" (myself NOT being one) over Chevrolet's decision to use 'SS' on the Cobalt, Trailblazer, etc., it in no way took away from our beloved Camaro 'SS'.
4. As Scott has said numerous times when referring to the few "naysayers" of the 5th Gen. Camaro, "You can't please everyone."
5. It's just a name, given to a very good offering from GM...get over it. There are far more important things in life. Yes, we're all very passionate about our cars, but really, lets commend SLP for offering us this car, and move forward.

I did not intend to offend anyone with my thoughts, nor upset current/past f-body 'Firehawk' owners. But seriously folks, lets accept the G8 Firehawk into our community/family of great offerings from GM and move forward.

Imagine if someone took a GTO in 2004 and made a kit to convert it into a Camaro. A lot of people would be excited to see Camaros rolling around because that GTO was a great car, but a lot of other people wouldn't want the Camaro to be an aftermarket kit. I think that a lot of muscle car guys are purists about names. That's why we have all of that concern about a GM Z28. Nobody wants to consider some aftermarket Z28 because any company could designed a package, and not every package will live up to the name.

This Firehawk is a great package. It really reflects style and performance that we would all want from a Firehawk.

I don't want to see something like this become more desirable than a GM-produced kit. For a lot of Pontiac enthusiasts, this is going to be a great way to get back to some of their roots. For Pontiac executives, this could mean one of two things. The first potential interpretation is that enthusiasts want their classics back. The second interpretation is that Pontiac enthusiasts will stick with Pontiac regardless of whether the cars that made a love affair out of drivers and machines come back. I don't want, as a consumer, to send the second message to GM. I'm worried about recent priority shifts—releasing the G3, focussing on small engines, CAFE—and how those shifts will permanently change the company. I'm worried that market demand for these functional cars will cause GM to forget some of the flare that made companies, like Pontiac, interesting to buyers.

I like this kit. I'm just worried that it might give Pontiac an excuse not to make its own Firehawk.
