Carbon build-up service

I didn't install catch can. I have 33,000 miles on my 2017 ZL1. Is there a preferred
carbon build up service for the intake valves.

Check with your local dealers to see what they recommend.

I’ve never kept my Camaros long enough to put the miles on them needed to do an intake cleaning (only have 14K miles on my ‘17 ZL1). However, I have had intake cleaning done through the dealer on three different daily drivers around the 30,000 to 40,000 mile range. Never any issues with performance or check engine lights following the clean outs.

LT1 engine really doesn't need any carbon cleaning of the intake valves. For whatever reason, the LT1 is significantly less affected as a DI engine.

He doesn't like what catch can threads devolve into. (I think your question was genuine and in no way trolling, I disagree with the call here.)

Might be because it has "half a catch can" from the factory already, that is, a clean side oil separator.

I’ve cleaned older vehicles with over the counter cleaners. Removed the intake and cleaned it off the car away from any air sensors.

In the process of my build here is a pick of the valves before some light cleaning per mechanic. Engine has 10 K on it and hie said engine looks great with vlv's and guides well within spec. No catch can but, I am installing a MM catch can.

Why was the head removed?
Cam install?

Those valves look just as clean as a port injected engine.

GM powertrain engineers thought about oil in the intake during development of the LT4:

"A PCV separator, which is unique to the LT4, was developed to keep oily air from being drawn through the intake, where it could end up collecting on the back of the intake valves. A little bit of oil on a port-injected engine can help lubricate valves, but because all Gen 5 V8s are direct injected, there's no fuel washing the back of the intake valve. That means oil in the PCV system can end up sticking to the back of the hot intake valves impeding airflow and eventually preventing the valves from seating properly."

Hopefully the valves stay pretty clean.

Run some DI valve cleaner that you spray through the throttle body with the engine running. CRC and STP both make these products and they work.

I used the STP just yesterday. Can't say I felt any difference in performance, but didn't
have any symtoms to begin with, just 33,000 miles. Feel valves were fairly clean based on what you guys posted.

Thanks
