Vegas has tried for a professional sports team for a while and the first league willing to give it a try is the NHL. It does has the potential to be a novelty if they can't sell the game. Not so sure it's as cut and dry as "people either like hockey or they don't". The franchise will need to entice some of the I don't like hockey crowd to come out and see a game. IMO that is the only way to make hockey successful in the desert.

I like the "Aces" better than Black Knights for a nickname.

Aces should be the name. Not sure where Black Knights came from?
I think there is ton of marketing potential and keeping cool could definitely be one of them. Flights are reasonable to Vegas and I imagine you'll see a lot of "out of towners" fly in for a game and some Vegas fun.

''We have a lot of names in mind, but a lot of the ones I really liked are trademarked, so that's a little bit of an issue,'' Foley said Wednesday. ''I'm happy to take any suggestions anyone has for a name, particularly one that's not already trademarked.''

...Neon (k)nights is still in the running, apparently.

I wouldn't use that name for a beer-league roller hockey team.

Neon Nights or The Trademarks. I'd probably lean towards the trademarks just because it's funny.
How about the Vegas Booze Hounds. It'd make for an interesting mascot.

Franchise owner Bill Foley said Thursday night that he has registered domain names for the nicknames Red Hawks, Nighthawks and Desert Hawks. Foley said he is close to registering two other names as well.
.

Quote:
While the red hawks and desert hawks do not actually exist, the nighthawks are birds that are indigenous to the state, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Also, Nighthawk was the name of the Air Force’s first stealth bomber plane, which made its maiden voyage from Groom Lake and was based out of Nellis Air Force Base.

"Lets go Grines" may not catch on too quick

Love the logo though.

New Haven use to use Nighthawks in the AHL.

Lets go Hawks rolls off the tongue a little easier.
