Vegas has tried for a professional sports team for a while and the first league willing to give it a try is the NHL. It does has the potential to be a novelty if they can't sell the game. Not so sure it's as cut and dry as "people either like hockey or they don't". The franchise will need to entice some of the I don't like hockey crowd to come out and see a game. IMO that is the only way to make hockey successful in the desert.

I like the "Aces" better than Black Knights for a nickname.

Aces should be the name. Not sure where Black Knights came from?
I think there is ton of marketing potential and keeping cool could definitely be one of them. Flights are reasonable to Vegas and I imagine you'll see a lot of "out of towners" fly in for a game and some Vegas fun.

Neon Nights or The Trademarks. I'd probably lean towards the trademarks just because it's funny.
How about the Vegas Booze Hounds. It'd make for an interesting mascot.
