What do I do?

Hey...I need some advice.

I currently drive a 2003 Adrenalin Edition Sport Trac. It has 87,000 miles. I love the truck, but I have some problems. If you were in this situation what would you do...trade it in or repair it?

I owe $2,000 (approx.).
In it's current condition it is worth $6,500 (approx.)
I just found out that I need about $2,000 in repairs on the engine and brakes.

Over the past two years I've spent about $2,000 in other work but most of it was just general maintenance.

I wish this didn't happen until next year at this time so I could just trade it in on the new Camaro.

Thanks for the advice.

I think I would fix it and hang on to it until you can get a Camaro. It really depends on how much money you want to have for a trade in.

At 5 years old, I would think the vehicle is at the point where:

a) The value is really going to start to decline;
2) Repairs and maintenance costs are going to continue to mount up (as indicated by the costs you already mentioned above).

I would consider replacing it with a slightly newer vehicles (2-3 years old) that you can get for a reasonable price. Then you have a 4-5 year old vehicle to trade in for your Camaro.

I like Matt's idea better.

Forget what I said.

Thanks guys. I'm probably going to end up replacing it. Of course, now I'm looking at the G8 GT!

If you can sell the car at what it's worth (w/out having to deduct for repairs), shoot...go for it and get a G8 GT. Save yourself now and put yourself into something reliable.
