Will the Lucas non-synth oil affect warranty or is it equal to GM oil?

How many miles on yours?

Two of my friends and myself all have ZL1's (Auto), the noise is the same in all three cars, the rear end was replaced in one of them and the noise still remain the same, not very loud or annoying. These cars range from 200 mi to 2100 mi on them. Everyone that I have spoke with who have a ZL1 notice it faintly. It is so consistant, I do not belive it is a problem, possibly the pitch on that big ring and pinion gear that is so duriable.

Just changed the diff fluid at 3500.. It really made a difference, I don't know if was a combination if the oil and cold weather or what but I noticed after I drove it a few and got the oil warmed up, it stopped making the noise. Now with new fluid, part# 88862624, it's not even noticeable. Cost was $73 (3 quarts) worth a shot. FYI no friction modifier is needed with this fluid, so don't put any in!

Oh mines an auto..

Auto here 7500 mi. No whine on mine, but what I do have is when in sport mode
At 20 to 40 mph when I'm coasting then blip the throttle I hear a clang and feel it also kind of like a u-joint clang. I checked them and their fine. Doesn't do it in drive or tap shift and it comes from the rear end.

Guys, this is a high performance car and it's going to make noise. Strong rear differentials will have a slight whine to them. It is nothing to be concerned about. If you can't hear yourself talk over the gear whine, then you may have a problem. My 02 z28 with a 9" has a slight whine to it and it's been fine for several years. The ZL1 is no different.

Do the CTS-V's whine?... doubt a Cadillac owner would accept that. I see both sides to the argument.

Why don't people bring their car to a dealership when they have problems? Your car is under warranty... I just don't get it.

I took mine, they said it was normal.( GM techs are not the brightest mechanics)..I didn't think so, took matters into my own hands. People are just asking for opinions and any experiences.

I won't take that personally since I am a GM tech but I promise you are better off taking it to the dealer and having them look at it. This way if you have an issue now or in the future it is documented and more likely to be covered if a failure happens when your past your warranty.

I agree that's why I took it and saved the paperwork just in case. Some techs are better than others, but if they don't want to troubleshoot or they just read TSB saying its normal, they won't do anything about it. No disrespect!

Yeah, I did that with my 99 for a leaking front seal. Drove it home and noticed in the driveway it wouldn't roll in neutral. They over torqued the front pinion nut. By the time I got it back to the dealer it was whining. They rebuilt the rear end, but it was never as quiet as before.
