I have that as well, same MPH range, backlash noise on the ring and pinion it sounds like. It's not super loud, but noticeble. I have no opinion about it right now. I'm waiting to see if it gets worse.

Like a lot of the other members, mine has had a little rear end noise since I got it. Unless it gets worse or a problem arises,Im not messing with it.Im not about to take my Z in to the dealer for this little noise.Im afraid of what it would sound like after they fixed it:(. Im changing the diff. fluid in about 500 miles. Ill see if that makes a difference. From the looks of it,this sounds pretty common.

I wouldn't count on the diff fluid change to help. It didn't make any difference in mine and from reading in various websites including this one, it's likely backlash in the setup.

Are you sure it is not the dual mode exhaust you may want to check on fluttering exhaust and pull fuse eight i think?

Doubt it is, since I can hear it over the exhaust fully opened up with my exhaust commander. Also, it's only on decelleration. What stinks about it is the speed range I hear it in is the speed range I drive in most of the time. I've had a couple of other GM care do this, but for $60k, I'm not going to be as accepting of it.

I thought about it when I posted it. At least the other form should be temporary and doesn't require a trip to the dealership.

Gary
I figured there were others that had the same thing. I know it isn't an issue, but annoying nonetheless

There are probably only two solutions. The first one is replacing the rear end and the second one is replacing just the ring and pinion set. It sounds like it is hit or miss with the rear end since this post is leading me to believe the problem is more widespread than I thought. I don't remember reading that the SS has many noisy gears. I wonder about the quality control of the supplier for the rear diff.

Don't notice any noise from mine but I don't listen for it. I expected a little noise but I didn't hear any.

It almost seems to be an issue with the 3:73 gears, I don't think anyone with the auto is having an issue.

Mine is an auto.

I took my car to the dealership this morning and the service manager drove it while I was riding with him. He heard what I was describing along with the tire noise and said he doubted they could make any improvement in it. Pretty much what I suspected. They alway equate higher noise levels to a higher performance car, and he mentioned the larger ring and pinion gear vs. the SS implying it could contibute to the noise.
