Warm air out of vents
This is my first 5th gen Camaro and I normally leave the vent on while driving. I've noticed that even set on cold, that fairly warm air comes through. It was 69 degrees this evening and warm air was still coming out. Is this normal? No other car Ive owned has done this. I'm wondering if it has something to do with heat from the supercharger.

That air goes through the heater core/ evaporator box, doesn't it, so since I believe I heard it's easier to heat air than cool it, I believe the heat is more dominant temperature. I don't understand what thd supercharger has anything to do with it... It's on it's own dedicated cooling circuit which I doubt goes anywhere near the climate control box. I don't havd a diagram, but I can see them interlacing ghe two systems when thry want the coolest, densist aid for the motor.

Supercharged engines create more heat that's why they had to put the extractors in the hood. You can see the heat coming out them if look closely.

My SS will even raise the temperature of the garage substantially after its shut off after a trip.
Additionally, yes, with the HVAC on "cold" the air coming from the vent is always warm. And no, its not normal. Every other car I've ever had has no problem with producing cool ambient air. But oh well, if thats the biggest problem with the car, I'll consider myself lucky and be happy lol

This is normal. Set the AC to use the "recycle" air setting and this will stop.

Thanks everyone. I figured it was normal for this car and maybe increased due to the extra heat from the supercharger. I normally use outside air, but will switch it to recycle and see if that helps a bit.

A lot of it is just from the sun heating up the dash and everything under it. The interior of a car gets very hot out in the sun. Plus the heater core in there. Most cars I've owned the vent air is a bit warmer than ambient, including my SS.
Clicking the recirc on will kick on the A/C. If you do that regularly just make sure to go to straight vent and highish fan for the last minute or so of running. This will help dry out the evap core and prevent mold/funky smells. Shutting a car off with the A/C still on can leave it wet back there. |
