Cam install
I am about to attempt my cam install and I wanted to ask if you guys pull the motor for the install or leave it in? I am also installing a new oil pump and lower. Thanks ☺️

If the heads are coming off I would pull it, otherwise I would leave it in.

The shop that did mine left it in the car. They did pull the nose off the front

Might as well pull it. If you do the oil pump also, you would have to remove the steering gear to be able to get the oil pan off.

Seems like it’s just to much hassle to do it in car. Pulling the pump, messing with timing chain and timing alignment. I think most places are just pulling the motor out now.

My front subframe was dropped It's more efficient, especially if you are doing Cam, valvetrain, valley cover, oil pump, heads, etc. Less chance to damage car and all you pay is the price of an alignment at the end of the day.

It just takes a few hours to pull the motor. Just pull it, that way you can do a nice clean install on a stand.

If your car is a M6, pulling the heads while the motor is still in the car is easier. It allows the motor to tilt upwards a good bit more before hitting the firewall which will give you the clearance you need to separate the motor and trans

Droppign ths subframe is easier, but one thing that worries me about dropping the subframe is the issues some people had with their electric power steering afterward.
