OCTANE LEVEL SWEET SPOT FOR CAMMED 2650 MAGGIE??

Hey Guys, I am putting the car in the shop later this week for the install of Jannettys Terminator Cam / 2650 Maggie package w/ +30 FICs. I am curious to find if there is a octane sweet spot for this build like there is for E (60%) with the JRE 125 Flex Fuel build. I can get 110 race fuel by the barrel, leaded and unleaded. What do you guys think. Thanks in advance.

E60 is still the sweet spot.

I am not going to be able to run ethanol - I'm staying with the stock LT4 fuel system with the JMS voltage booster and +30s the only upgrade. So, is there a particular octane content that is the most efficient? Should I shoot for a 100 octane tune, a 105 or 95? I guess what I'm asking is is the boost in horsepower linear to the octane level? Lastly, since I have no cats, should I run leaded gas?

Personally I think I would have my “daily tune” on 93 octane and then maybe have a “hot tune” available to throw in for 100 octane at the track. I believe the higher the octane the more power but I don’t think the tune can “flex” like it does for e85 (but I’m no expert on that). I wouldn’t personally want to have to run 100 all the time, unless you are only running the car on the track. Just my preference and opinion.

Are you going to run race gas all the time? Will you need to pulley swap if you want to run pump gas?

I know so many people who thought 100 octane was going to be okay.... but then they end up not driving their cars because of fuel limitations.

95-97 using fuel additive put me into the 26-27° degree timing area easily/safely with my 2300.

I'm on 50/50 methanol right now and seems to have put me there plus some in equivalent octane, I can easily reach that level of timing without knock while on 93.

Just run a 93 tune and a race gas tune, youll make about 40hp or so more depending on your build.

Your still going to need to watch the high side regardless.

Mine is a Stage X. I decided to run 100 oct. all the time rather than E because it's so much simpler. There are two 100 pumps within 3 miles of my home. It's obvious I recommend 100.

You'll learn to put camaro1973 on your ignore list as I have. He's a troll.

Hes not asking what you like to do. Hes asking what he should do.

And weren't you banned? Shame it wasn't permanent.

I would not recommend running that high of an octane all the time on the street. 92-93 for DD purposes is the easiest and simplest way to go. Use 100 octane for a race tune.

My reasoning is that I don't think it's a good idea to always run something at it's max. That can lead to problems like a blown engine. A 93 octane flex tune is where you want to be safely for DD.

Sure, higher Oct will net more timing and hp, however, unless you are only bringing the car out for some drag action and constantly running very low tire pressure on drag radials you will not make use of your 93 tune nonetheless a 100+ Oct tune. It is a shame you are not gonna do e since u have the injectors going in.

IMO, most run 100(or MS109 equivalent) as a high Oct tune to answer ur question.

I was under the impression, that was my set up, I would not be able to run any ethanol.

Me and a few others with maggie 2650 cars can't run ethanol unless it's a small blend like E30 maybe. Typically we run on 93 and then use race gas for race days/nights. It's worth anywhere from 50-100 whp.

We have just cam, lt4 system, and dsx low side. No injectors, but I'm not sure how much those would even help.

You may find you can't run full e85, but as JasonGoFast said you could run a blend. Those injectors should help quite a bit in lowering your inj pw. I did the DSX lower aux pump instead of the booster and have no issues on the low side keeping 79-80psi wot. You may ask them to add the Lingenfelter high flow check valve to it. It wont cost a lot and will help keep the flow up.
