Pulling/painting the chrome strip body color..

Just shows you can't be sure that everyone has the right info....my experts down here who have modded a lot told me the chrome strip was plastic welded on, and would be damaged in getting it off. In some quick tugs a few months ago, that seemed to be the case But a post on the other site showed a company that pulled it off, saying it has plastic tabs that will release from underneath. So with my trusty trim tools, CRC 656 (like wd40) I started looking and found underneath the strip, there are indeed tabs. So with some work and a broken tab or two, I was able to get it off...sanded, acetone cleaned and painted with Primer today, going to use cyber gray base+ clear coat, more later:








so this is OEM aerosol paint from automotivetouchup.com - 2 coats Cyber grey and 3 coats clear:



So after wiping down the connections again and filling the tabs with GE Silicone it went back together beautifully:

also, gmpartshouse does confirm the chrome strip is not avail without grill...bad policy decision, IMO...
