No trackers yet, but Sprint just released a nice cheap GPS tracking unit, only issue is the charge only last 3-5 days. My idea was to hide it somewhere in the car, but if the battery life is so short, I don't want it to be a PITA to charge.
My car has 5 cameras. 1 on each mirror, 1 front and 1 rear. These are all for parking, with input into my Android head unit. I also have a Vava dash cam. Problem is, none of these are really designed for security except the Vava does have G sensors and parking mode which will record video if the unit senses any bumps or sudden shocks. I am simply hoping that if people see the cameras, that they will be deterred from breaking in. Which is unlikely.

Hmm, I’m looking to prevent someone from stealing the actual car. Anyone disable their car when they leave it to go on a trip?

Pull the coil packs. Put car on jack stands and remove 1 wheel. Put wheel at say neighbors or friends house. Add a satellite connection style security camera. You’ll be able to see what’s going on from your phone.

Most of the time private garage so no worries. Other times (movie theater, mall, or concert parking lots) I use Disclok. It’s bright yellow, ugly, beefy as hell, solid and heavy. Move on to the next car. It takes me about 10 seconds to attach it. Nothing is 100% but it all ads up and costs precious time to a would-be thief. Use a layered approach.

I believe he’s referring to leaving the car at home when he goes away on a trip. But definitely those items mentioned above certainly work no doubt!

Video camera's that connect to the interwebs that allow me to check on my car sitting at its carport 24/7 - motion activated.
An alarm that's tricky in a good way. If set ya can't even use the FOB. Could be a bad thing I reckon... but the glass is half full. |

if it gets gone boom 5k down on the next 1...... there is always a kill switch you could throw on the starter solenoid works great. unless they have a tow truck Last edited by lemontwist; 06-19-2019 at 08:54 PM. |

Part of my sick humor kicked in and gave me this idea that could work too. Put some sheet plastic down on the garage floor near car. Put some blood from a steak ( enjoy steak dinner night prior, save some blood) put blood on plastic . Walk in blood make some foot prints. Leave some gloves on the plastic. Wrap with Saranwrap a bunch of old blankets (shape like a persons body) . Add some blood on final wrap. Place wrapped looking person next to car near sheet plastic.
Leave the staged crime scene. I bet should some asshole try breaking in to get your car would get a shock of a lifetime seeing that upon entry.

Kill switch -yes! Back in the 90s I had a local alarm shop install a *passive* kill switch in my Formula for $40. It was “Passive” because the switch was spring loaded and defaulted to the kill position once released so it’s impossible to forget to set it. Muscle memory and habit take over in a matter of days. That switched worked flawlessly for 11 years until I sold the car.

Have a nest cam with phone app but you can’t always have your phone handy.
