Wow, this is interesting. I just replaced my starter a few months back as it finally died from being so slow, also have been through 3 batteries in 9 years. Right after I got my 2011 SS/RS L99 one of my friends said to me, man that thing sounds like you need a new starter because it is turning over so slow, and I told him that my used to be mech at the time at the dealership said, that's "just how they are". So I assumed that to be gospel. Oh, and I also just had to replace my ALT..

My son and I have owned this 2014 V6 Automatic for 2 years now (13k miles that we've put on it for a total of 52k now). I don't recall any starter issues. Southern Indiana, moderate seasons (weather changes every stinking day). Garage kept, too.

So, are there any preventative steps that we can take to avoid starter failures?

from what I've read on the camaro5 forums over the years, it seems the SS have been having issues, not the V6. the article I read about the class action was not engine specific, but I'm sure the actual class action has all the vehicle specifications detailed.

Mine is fine knock on wood

Are these people stock or did they do long tubes?

My 80 Z28 had wicked heat soak on the starter....but only because it had LT headers.

Before the headers it was just fine.

GM doesn't build a vehicle with the engineering assumption of illegal modification.

After the lawyers get paid you'll be lucky to see $6.00.

Three batteries in nine years? What is killing them? I just pulled the stock battery out or my car last month. Manufacture date 2012 lol.

I have a 2015 1LE. Brought to dealer with hard to start issue. I also complained about a plastic burning smell, that occurred simultaneously. If the car sat for more than two days, it would turn over really slow. Sometimes it would start, but the tach and other electronics wouldn't work.

The dealer told me I needed a battery. I brought the battery to a auto parts store, they tested it and it was fine. I put the car on a battery tender almost every night. I guess I'll bring it back.

what's stupid is that it's such an easy fix for GM and they haven't done it since they are raking in repairs from it. They just need to come out with an update for the A/C head unit so it doesn't strain the door so much

Does this just affect the SS or does it affect the ZL1's and Z/28's also does anyone know and how many of you have had this problem regarding the starter itself? Battery would be considered a totally different issue. I have not experienced this even with headers, which I would think headers with cats would be more of a problem than headers without cats.

My 2011 SS is on its third starter. Number three is on its last days. I've been replacing them with brand new OEM replacements. Hoping to find something a little more durable for number four.

Do you have headers and is yours a auto or manual tranny, I do not know what difference it would make, the original write up on this class action is so vague due to there is a V6, a LS3 in the SS, LSA in the ZL1 and the 427 in the Z/28 are all affected? Surely not.

Nope, no aftermarket headers. And mine is an automatic.
