Changed my oil at 500, then 1000 and every 3000 afterwards. Changed diff fluid at 500/1000 and the every spring (around every 3000 miles). Overkill I know, but they are easy changes in my driveway and I like the feeling of going further than necessary because I plan on keeping my ZLE for a long time too.

Got mine done at 500. Used my first free service for it.. I would recommend that. Also today I am doing the Diff fluid just before 2000.. I would suggest that as well.

Did not do a oil change with it this time.. But will probably get another at 3000.

Definitely doing it at 500mi, maybe at 1500 also. But after that, isn't 3k really overkill if it's just a street car? I was thinking every 5k on the odo just for it to be easier to keep track of, so my schedule on the odometer would be

500 mi
1500 mi
5k mi
10k mi

Probably use the free service at the 5k mile marker

I'll go contrarian here...
I did my first change whenever the OLI message popped up. It was probably at the 1 year mark, as it is both time and mileage-based. probably had about 5000 miles on the car as I still had two "commuter" cars at that point.

There is an obvious enthusiasm for short interval oil changes on this forum, and I will likely be flogged for heresy.

Better safe than sorry is how most people are justifying the early oil changes. I plan to keep the car for a long time, so it's imperative I do more than the bare minimum.

Absolutely, I've never gone past 800 on my first oil changes on any new car or truck. I did go further on my new 3.0 diesel but still changed it at 1500 miles.

If there's one thing I've learned on this forum, don't question or F with guys who track. They know their sh*t. While I do track my car, I am not one of these guys so I refer back to them often.

BTW changing your oil at 500 miles is in 2 places on page 1.
Amazon is your friend for oil, diff fluid pumps, oil filters ect.
0-40 Mobil 1 and PF 64 is cheap insurance.
When you hit 1500 miles, do the research for diff fluid change. It's easy.

Yes it's in 2 places on page 1 of the "Track preparation guide", again not an official document that comes with your car. It's neither in the performance manual or the regular manual. Not that it matters since an early oil change won't hurt, it's just strange the this document and the actual manual give different information as far as keeping the car under 4k RPM. It's not a big deal but people always bring this information up like it's in the manual when it's not.

The way I look at it, if Chevrolet suggests to follow these steps when breaking in and preparing a car for the track it can't hurt to follow these guidelines whether you plan to track your car or not. And keep in mind that this document is intended for 1LE specific cars and the other V8 powered cars.

I change new cars right around 500, and here's why:

If you don't catch the car right off the delivery truck, there's a good chance it sat in a holding yard, dealer lot, etc for some time between when it was built and when it was sold.

It was only short-cycled about a hundred times in that same timeframe. Start it to put drive it to the truck or train to transport, shut it off. Start it to load it, shut it off. Start it to unload it, shut it off. Move it from back of the lot to the service bay for PDI. Start, stop. PDI to the back lot. Start/stop. Back lot to the detail shop, start/stop. Some employee races it around the lot, start/stop. Some jackass revs it to 5k on a test drive when it's cold. That's all freaking horrible for a new engine. Lot attendant moves it from one row to the other while juggling cars. Start/stop.

Change the oil. Chances are you've got byproducts of break-in and condensation in there already. Will it kill the car to run factory oil to the OLM change reminder? No. But in a car like this, not on my watch!

I don't believe there is any real evidence or science to say "this is why you need to do this." If you read what's being said here or on other forums it's all for peace of mind, or it's cheap so why not.

If there is any evidence to justify a 500 mile oil change I haven't seen it.

I read a lot of stuff on this forums about changing oil at 500 miles. I decided to change the oil instead at the end of the break in period of 1500 miles with the first free dealer change.

At 5000 miles Ill change it again and switch to 5w30 synthetic and OEM Filter.

Peace of mind and cheap are things I never experience when someone else works on my car.
I'm still dreading the day my dealer does my power steering recall.

I see that the Track Prep Guide is not just for the 1LE but also the SS Coupe ... V8 vehicles. Appreciate all the input.

Ride on!
