sun glare on metal dash trim

Has anyone found a solution to the glare on the metal dash trim that looks nice?

With varying degrees of success, I've Scotchbrite'd glossy-bright trim down to more of a satin-y tone and hand-painted the bright to a near color match for the dash.

Pull it off and plastidip. I did my gauge cluster surround and shifter surround. Been holding up fine for the better part of a year. I just cleaned the parts with alcohol, let dry, then did about 4 coats of plastidip about 30min apart.

Yes, black plastidip worked perfectly here, too, just like it did for cthompson07. Looks almost OEM if you take your time and do it right.

Nice.

The key is having patience, no matter what approach you might take.

Is this really that big of a deal..? I don’t think that I’ve even noticed it.

Not a fan of the black trim pieces..looks too “base model” IMO..

There is that one time of day when the sun shines at just the right angle, you'll definitely notice it then. Not a big deal, though, I agree, just our collective OCD at work (again)

The texture is actually very nice and I don't think this would scream base model. Best of all, plastidip can be peeled off with zero residue if you change your mind, unlike when one compounds or scuffs up the surface to reduce glare.

I’m with Zaimer on this one... i prefer the factory look. I may have been bothered once or twice by glare, but it’s not a persistent issue for me. I buy lower model 1/2 ton trucks coast to coast for my salespeople to use. The black painted trim while solving the sun glare issue, reminds me too much of the trim adorning XLT F150’s, etc.

If it was a persistent issue, you'd do something about it without worrying about whether it reminded you of any other vehicle. If anything, you'd figure you were only borrowing somebody else's good idea.

Yeah I've had the occasion where you turn into the sun and pow! Like a military spec laser shoots your eye off the IP trim!!!

I'm seriously considering this. These all look good. What's the difference between plasti-dip and what I was thinking of doing - using some rustoleum primer and flat black?

Are you referring to the warm yellow ball in the sky? I saw it once last year. I live in Michigan, this is not a problem here.
