Had the rear diff fluid changed in the SS including additive and I'm getting the groan again.

Dealer says normal. After a few thousand miles it'll go away like the first time.

I went in yesterday for this very same issue. I have a 2011 2SS LS3 about 10K miles. Rubbing noise when backing and turning, or even slow turning forward. Dealer had two bulletins on the issue no recall. The first bulletin from early 2011; stated that 2011 models with auto trans should change the differential fluid and use their supplement. The second bulletin from May of 2012 stated that 2011 and 2012 models with auto trans should have the fluid changed as well as the axle seals, and several key bolts. The fax they received today from GM showed a new bulletin to come out July 1 that states they will continue with the previous fix and added that they will open the differential and change out clutch parts. I am in waiting mode for the parts.

Definitely the groaning is NOT normal.

Went back to the dealer two weeks after they did the anti-lock brake re-programming because it did nothing to get rid of the noise and they told me about the new bulletin that says to replace the axle seals. Waiting for the parts too! I'm excited to know that there may be a fix for the problem!

Well I had my rear axel seals replaced with new ones that are a new design or something because they have a different part number and it seemed to help for a month or so but it was probably just that it was hot because when the weather cooled down (yes it's already getting cool in the Motor City) the groaning was back. The dealer is deciding what to do next. Is everyone else just living with the groaning or did you get it actually fixed or what? The fluid change with additive worked for me a couple times but just for about a year. I want a real solution... it seems like the rubbing must be wearing out the clutches in there or something.

I am getting this groaning noise as well. I hope GM comes up with a permanent fix for this issue. Has anyone had a permanent fix to this issue?

I experienced this for the first time a few weeks ago. I was turning around in a small lot, and had to backup on in incline. Front wheels were only turned a little bit but it made me say what the hell was that. Maybe limited slip was slipping because it was going backwards.

It is not her imagination nor is it mine. I have the same exact issue with my Camaro. I am not able to grasp that this is normal. I have the Brembo brakes as well I thought maybe they were pulled to tight seems that is not the case. I think I will do a little more research on the brakes. That said the common element for me seems to be incline. I do park at home and at work on a slight incline albeit opposite directions in each case. I am also wondering if temperature is a contributing factor because I do seem to notice it more in the morning and after work. Since I live in Texas and we are in August if it is tied to temperature it is scary.

Do you have the document IDs for these TSBs? I recently had my torque converter replaced and front timing covers at the same time as they were leaking oil.

Now I have a grinding noise under similar conditions as noted and started hearing them right after the aforementioned service was done. However, in my research I am finding conflicting results. This thread focuses on liquid replacements, however other threads mention hub bearing replacement. I have this noise in my front passenger wheel when I take turns and sometimes when in reverse when the engine is "cold".

OHH! I have something to add i dont know if this is helpful or not.

So my car NEVER had this problem. LIKE EVER. So now I just got my steering rack replaced. Somehow NOW the car is producing this noise while the wheel is turned sharp and backing up.

So is there any connection there?

So I got a call today from the dealership about the status of this, they said that the source of the noise was a heat shield near the exhaust? They said sometimes when they take the exhaust off to get to the transmission to do the torque converter, that when putting it back together can be too tight or some nonsense. Sort of strange that I'm hearing this noise from the passenger side wheel that others are explaining pretty much verbatim, and it turns out to be something totally unrelated...

that it weird, because i had my steering rack replaced, and now its CAUSED the rubbing sound.
