2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray Rated at 29 MPG Highway

Corvette Stingray Most Efficient Sports Car on the Market
2014 model unmatched in combo of 455 hp and EPA-estimated 29 mpg highway
General Motors

2013-07-09

DETROIT – The 2014 Corvette Stingray will deliver up to an EPA-estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city, and 29 mpg on the highway, making the new Stingray the most fuel efficient sports car on the market as no other car offers more than 455 horsepower and greater than 29 mpg highway.

“The Corvette Stingray establishes the benchmark for modern performance cars by using technologies to deliver more performance and more miles per gallon,” said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer for the Corvette. “We expect more and more performance cars will follow Corvette’s example.”

The EPA estimate of 17 city and 29 highway is for the Corvette Stingray equipped with an all-new, seven-speed manual transmission. The estimate reflects an average of fuel economy in both the default “Tour” mode, which delivers 28 mpg highway, and driver-selectable “Eco” mode, which delivers 30 mpg highway. For Stingrays equipped with the seven-speed manual transmission, Eco mode enables Active Fuel Management, which disables four of the cylinders for improved fuel economy during light engine loads.

For Corvette Stingrays equipped with the six-speed automatic, Active Fuel Management is active in all drive modes until the driver engages the manual-shift mode using the steering-wheel paddles. Fuel economy estimates for Corvette Stingrays equipped with the six-speed automatic will be finalized soon.

The highway rating represents an 11-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous Corvette, while the all-new 6.2L LT1 V-8 delivers 455 horsepower, a 6-percent increase over the previous Corvette. The LT1 delivers 460 horsepower with the available dual-mode exhaust.

By comparison, the Porsche 911 Carrera S delivers 400 horsepower, and an EPA-estimated 27 mpg highway.

Sports cars with more than 455 horsepower typically offer significantly lower highway fuel economy estimates than the Corvette Stingray. For example, the Jaguar F-Type S offers 495 hp and 23 mpg highway while the Audi R8 V10 offers 510 hp and 19 mpg highway.

Sports cars that deliver more than 29 mpg highway based on EPA estimates typically deliver significantly less engine output. For example, the Porsche Cayman offers 30 mpg and 275 hp while the BMW Z4 sDrive28 delivers 34 mpg and 241 hp.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale this fall, with a convertible following by the end of the year.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Earns 29 MPG According to the EPA

http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2014...o-the-epa.html

Just the Facts:

The 2014 Corvette with manual transmission will return up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway, according to the EPA.
EPA estimates for 2014 Corvettes with the six-speed automatic transmission have not yet been released.
The EPA ratings reflect the use of premium fuel.

DETROIT — The 2014 Corvette Stingray equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission will return 17 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov Web site. While the new Chevrolet Corvette does not require the use of premium fuel, it is recommended. The EPA confirms the official ratings were achieved using premium gas.

EPA estimates for 2014 Corvettes with the six-speed automatic transmission have not yet been released.

This 17/29/21 mpg EPA rating makes the 2014 the most fuel-efficient Corvette of all time. With the six-speed manual transmission, the last-generation, 2013 Corvette returned 16 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and a combined rating of 19 mpg.

As previously reported by Edmunds, the base version of the 2014 Corvette is the most powerful yet, with 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque from its 6.2L LT1 V8 engine. But Chevy has used advanced technology, like active fuel management, direct injection and variable valve timing.

In highway mileage, the 2014 Corvette edges out its closest competitors.

The 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera S is rated at 19 city and 27 highway mpg. The 2014 Ford Mustang GT returns 18 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. Mileage for the 2014 Nissan GT-R is rated at 16 city and 23 highway. A 2014 Jaguar F-Type will reach 20 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. All numbers are from the EPA.

The EPA says a 2013 Viper SRT can be expected to get 12 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway.

Fuel prices, while relatively stable, have been an ongoing concern for consumers. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Monday listed the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. at $3.47 versus $3.38 a year ago.

Edmunds says: Chevy has achieved the seemingly contradictory goals of increasing the 2014 Corvette Stingray's horsepower while setting a high-mileage standard.

Is it just me or does EVERYBODY get the horsepower wrong? Just right now we had 1 person say that it has 450hp and another say it has 455hp....

I know it's a small mistake but I think if this beast can get 460hp that people should know it!

Well the actual number is in fact 455. Not everyone is going to have the exhaust.. And I don't think its a bad thing to say 450 if your car has 455. When you say 455 it sounds like you're trying too hard if you ask me.

That's true, I never thought about it like that. I plan on getting the exhaust so I guess I just got that 460 number in my head, I didn't mean to come off as mad . Do you or anybody else know if the automatic will have the same performance numbers?

Does this mean there's no gas guzzler tax? That would be fantastic!
