Headers - Heat shield for starter
So I am finally installing my 2" kook headers/exhaust on a 2017 camaro ss. Also a Pray ported MSD/95mm throttle body, E85 and an ATI underdrive pulley. I already had a rotofab induction. My car dyno'd just over 390 w/ just the rotofab.
There are threads recommending a heat shield but I noticed there already is one from the factory. Do people change this or add an additional one? I also see the harness everyone speaks about moving under the coolant tank that should be moved. What a difference between this car and my 2000 Formula. Looks like a lot more engineering went into this one. Also, I can't find my E85 conversion kit that I bought. I have a tune from Pray. Can I run it before I install the sensor. I didn't know if it will default to gas if no sensor is found or not. Thanks |

Are the headers coated or wrapped?

Car doesn't adjust to anything if it cant see e85... I would do sensor first then install tune.. i recently wanted to see what kind of gas I was getting at two pumps here in town so I bought a Bluetooth adapter from Amazon and the torque pro 2 app and there was a guy on a Cadillac website that had a custom PID which allowed me to read the e85 content running through my fuel lines Right now I'm sitting at 73.9% from one station and 65.3 at another I think it may be because I still had two gallons of regular gas 93 octane so my next one should put me in the 80s percentile

2016s didnt all have the heat shield. Thats why people talk about adding one. Iv had my headers for 2 years and have the factory shield but I also have Swain Tech ceramic coating. you can add the E85 sensor but do not put E85 in the car until its tuned. The sensor isnt turned on until it is turned on in the tune.

Thanks!
I wondered if the heat shield was added later. My headers are not coated or wrapped. I found my E85 conversion kit so that is no longer an issue. As a side note, I ordered the exhaust with cats because I was afraid it would be too loud without them. I also ordered my car without the quad exhaust so the sound will be very different. |

OP, my headers are ceramic coated but I added a lava shield starter shield too, for 40 bucks it's just extra insurance and made me feel better. Over a year and no issues with heat and starter, car is tracked too.

Reviving old thread:
Can’t get the starter shield back on with the headers on. I wrapped the starter with the DEI Versa shield. So question is: DEI wrap vs GM shield??

I wrapped mine with header tape and the two tubes closest to the header were also taped. Never had and issue. I also wrapped my C7.

I always wondered about the heat in the starter. Wouldn’t the wrap not let it escape as easily?

I think it’s mostly about radiant heat resistance. I’ve also had the habit for a quite a few years that after a long drive I park the car with the hood open for an hour in the garage.

It just keeps it from getting too hot right next to the starter. On my C7 we were able to leave the heat shield on but still wrapped the starter anyway.
