What's yours idle at with the big boy cam?

I left my rad in and pulled the engine. It’s a little tight but 100% doable alone.

A lot of the popular LT shops keep the oem cover and phaser. I went to the billet lme from cover but forgot to turn the codes off so now I’m stuck w them. Fer

Here is a list of my build for reference. I also did the VVT delete kit. The builder and I discussed the heads for porting and his experience. After talking to those that did the heads I determined it was was not worth $2.5 k for 20 more rwhp. This car is wicked fast with the cam chop I wanted. You are going to want to tune the trans also.

Stg II btr cam w/ 38% fuel lobe, .660" lift Platinum spring kit, Titanium retainers,
chrommoly push rods.
STOCK heads and vlvs
GM Gen V cam bolt
WT Camshaft bolt
DSX low side kit
NW 103
Rotofab big gulp
2" ARH into 3" with cats, stock muffler
Weapon X triple ht exchangers
MM cc
Kong X port
IW V3 ZL1 8-ribbalancer w/ Metco ring
BTR GEN V/ afm delete kit
BTR Gen V VVT lockout
ARP head studs, Johnson lifters
ARP LT-4 crank bolt
TCM tune

I went with the 174 katech thermostat and haven't had any issues. You're list sounds good, not sure if you need the oil pump with the newer car but wouldn't hurt especially for the price of the unit.
I'd also recommend the ati balancer even if not pushing the boost, I chose the 8.6 lower to try and maintain blower temps but with the lighter balancer I feel it revs a little quicker.

What are the advantages of the VVT delete kit if you guys don't mind sharing? Thanks in advance.

I am by no means an expert. Going with the cam I have required the lifters to be replaced with Johnson lifters. My understanding is you get more tq sooner with this delete. Hopefully someone else can better explain this.

I'll have to ask my guy as I'm not 100% sure. He just mentioned its the better way to go and is using it on his l8t build.

The point of VVT was to change cam timing. Advance down low for more torque, retard up top for peak power to carry better.

The problem with VVT is the cam phaser becomes unstable with after market cams at higher rpm and causes issues. The lock out kit eliminates that problem and the slight loss of torque down low from removing VVT isn't a issue with these cars anyway.

Thanks for the feedback...

So it sounds like a ported blower is a better value than ported heads...
I may budget for that as well, while everything is apart.

I now also believe the VVT delete LS3 sprocket conversion is a no-brainer, as well as an ATI balancer...

not trying to clutter up the OP's thread, but do you mind elaborating on what codes you forgot to turn off?

Ted gave a good explanation on VVT delete. Am I assuming the AFM / DOD delete kit is then also required as this ties into emissions also.

Correct... Ted includes that in his base cam package.
I just figured there were other items i should do, and wanted the teams feedback.

So here is the updated list...

JRE Cam Package...
CAM: 222/234 .635/.635 114LSA 112 ICL +32%
Includes: Pushrods, lifters, gaskets, bolts, etc...

Then i will ad...
1. MM Catch Can
2. Blower Spacer and Blanket
https://fiinterchillers.com/product/...spacer-plates/
3. Green Gates Belt
4. 160 stat.
5. Katech VVT delete + Billet cover + C5R chain
https://shop.katechengines.com/produ...oiling-system/
6. ATI Balancer + 15% OD Pulley

Together that is about $5k which is my budget... so the ported blower will need to wait.

Anything else minor that I am missing?
