Am i understanding this correct, that a tune, then tune back to stock would even fail smog in the future?

2" not really needed until 800+ whp so just plan accordingly. If you're not going to eventually get into adding more fueling and cooling then 1 7/8 is more than enough.

yes, easy modifications such as CAI, ported/polished throttle body can easily add SOME horses and don't require a tune, they won't pass the visual (at least the CAI won't) but can easily be swapped back to stock. I'm going the Magnuson route and hoping they get their California CARB cert shit squared away before i need to smog it in 2028......

I got a response from them stating that the car has to go back because CARB wants to perform the test where the car is in a sealed room and they try to detect fuel vapor... So... yeah. I'm sure it will pass, but it's beyond frustrating.

Well either way, it's getting installed middle of February, I'll have 8 years to worry about that, without the "Magnuson" name plates on it anyways I don't police will even think they'll know it's not stock just from looking at it.....

This, unless you have terrible black ricer smoke coming from ur exhaust, I doubt they will ask to pop your hood and or tell you to go to a referee station.

The part that I don't understand about the Magnuson setup is it requires a tune doesn't it? One kit they leave it up to you and the other not? One way or another it don't see how it can pass carb with a tune. Confusing af

I'd been running around with similar logic. Then, I thought it would look better if I could identify the blower, and then show them, on Magnuson's website, that it's under certification, in the hopes they would be lenient... I'm probably wrong, lol...

That’s what Radz and i are banking on, their working on a CARB legal California tune.

Shit, I'm banking on it too! As it currently stands, a tune that's not carb certed will fail. However in a link I posted, at least 1 tuner like flash pro Hondata was able to pass carb so there's hope. I'm just not willing to commit until so.

Well again there are always other ways too. 😁

Yes it requires a tune but it's mostly about keeping the stock intake. Look at the CARB legal Edelbrock and ProCharger kits. Yes they require tunes but part of that is they keep the stock intakes. Doesn't make any sense because but now with the 8 years before smog thing, that can be kicked a long ways down the road.
