DIY Hand Porting Cylinder Heads

Hey Team, I hand ported a set of LS1 heads back in the day with help from some pro's and thought it was fun... While my motor is apart, I was thinking of hand porting these LT4 heads as well...

Anyone here done any hand porting with good results?

No. This just doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but more like "shade tree" engineering. CNC would be advisable.

Leave it to the pros.

Massage them a little bit and clean up the casting, free horsepower never hurts...

Every cnc port starts with a proven hand cut port.

If they're out and you have time, go for it! Even if you aren't a pro or have machinery to throw them on, there's can always gains from cleaning up.

Without it being something I did every day, I'd just clean up any casting crud. Slowly. I have done some port matching on older heads, but just don't know enough about the newer heads to start really grinding on them. I don't know where the big gains are, but more importantly don't know where the meat is.

Wouldn't waste my time, it would all be guesswork.

Too much will kill the bottom end. I wouldn't touch them without being able to flow them.
I did spend $1,000 for George Bryce (Star Racing) to port my Harley heads but they needed it for my intended use.
