how many miles on the tires? agreed with the alignment theory - your toe is likely to be incorrect.

I would put some contrasting paint on the metal that might be rubbing. Maybe orange, yellow, or white. Even white latex house paint should be good enough for a test. See if that rubs off.

There's no point wasting time on that. It's not rubbing. Just look at the pics.

It's hard to guess alignment from pictures, but it does appear to have a lot of negative camber. And I'm sure you'll find significant toe as well: probably toe out, but toe in would do it to if the car has lots of negative camber.

If it was rubbing, I think would OP hear it and have ground bits of rubber all over the inside of the wheel well and suspension.

IMO they're not rubbing and it's the toe in your alignment that's been off for a while now. I had NT555G2's on my Mustang and that's exactly what they looked like with about 12k miles on them. Like you I got lucky and was checking something else when I noticed it, the alignment shop also confirmed it when I put new tires on. I've also learned to stay away from Nitto's for my daily drivers as they get hard and feel like wood once you get enough heat cycles in them, great tires for burnout's though!

I agree with your assessment. I think something is severely wrong to cause that type of tread damage.
Only offering the paint idea as another way to prove it's not rubbing.

I've put about 20k miles on the nittos driving 55 miles a day 5 days a week for about 1yr, the car could have sat with the tires for awhile before I purchase, the tires do seem like wood! That's a great comparison lol. Thank you guys, I'm gonna get new tires here soon and Taking it to an alignment shop I'm still thinking about the continentals for best bang but I'm gonna check around. I'd love the pilots but they run more expensive. The goodyear seems like good tires but they don't seem to last very long and they are pretty high up there in cost and out of my budget.

There was an article in Car & Driver or Motor Trend latest issue about what happened when they kept their C8 in track alignment all of the time. Their pictures looked pretty much just like yours.

@Allez oh interesting I keep it in sport mode all the time, could that be a contributing factor? Should I normally be driving in comfort?

No, changing from tour to sport or track doesn't change the alignment on the car. Reading through it definitely just looks like a bad alignment that just went unnoticed.

Yeah I’d check your offset. Something isn’t right. You should be able to run a 285/30 with no problem.
