ZL1 Coupe vs Convertible?

Are there any difference’s in Performance from the Coupe to the Vert?

I know there were with the 5th Gen. I’ve been out of the Camaro world (Corvettes) for a bit and I’m no longer up to speed on this Generation.

Thanks for the help.

Yes there are performance differences. Namely things like Weight (Vert is quite a bit heavier), lack of eLSD on 'Verts (One of the best parts of the ZL1!), and probably rigidity. I'm guessing that the 5 PTM modes are not carried over either, like the 5th gen, only the Coupes have the 5 PTM modes. Convertibles had just "Competition mode" "Off" and "On".

There are probably more, but those are just some of them and the deal breakers for me.

everything that he just said is accurate: This is an exerpt from one of the early reviews of the ZL1 convertible:

"Selecting the topless ZL1 tames the track-day specialist coupe by stripping away some of the high-tech hardware, creating more of a formidable Sunday cruiser. The convertible lives without the coupe’s trick eLSD, or electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The folding roof hardware gobbles up the available space, so a conventional limited-slip diff is installed instead. More important, this in turn takes away Chevrolet’s stellar Performance Traction Management (PTM) feature, a multilevel stability- and traction-control system capable of turning any driving zero into a road-course hero. While launch control is still selectable, the loss of PTM means there’s no longer the ability to customize launches by dialing in wheelspin off the line. Chevrolet engineers are reluctant to use the word softer, instead describing the adjustments to the magnetorheological dampers and electronically assisted steering as “expanding the bandwidth” when in Tour mode. Smaller-diameter anti-roll bars are used in both the front and rear to dial back some of the athleticism. Even with the, ahem, expanded programming, the ride is compliant and the lighter steering remains sharp. "

That said, I live in Southern California, and can drive a convertible year round, thus I was ONLY looking for a convertible as a co-daily driver, so this works perfect for me. If you are track oriented (as this car is made for) you may indeed be disappointed with the convertible and I would suggest the coupe.

There's nothin' quite like a vert!

Driving a ZL1 vert is all the terror and thrill of driving a 500hp '67 427 cobra without the high probability of death 3 seconds after you mash the pedal.

On the street you'll never notice the weight or lack of ELSD. If you can get the chance, drive 'em both before you buy.

Thanks for the info. I found this beauty local too me and I love the contrast!

I’ve owned two Convertible Corvettes. There is no major difference from Coupe to Vert there.

I live in a city where Maserati's, Lambos, etc are a dime a dozen. but there are very, very, very few Gen 6 ZL1 convertibles on the road here, I have actually not seen another one in Los Angeles (I know they are here, but haven't seen one.) In a city where exotic cars are a dime a dozen, this car gets sooooo much attention and looks and thumbs up from valet guys it's crazy. So my vote , obviously, would be for the vert.

You also get the SS wing vs the ZL1 wing and in A10, your rear diff gear is the SS's 2.77 not the ZL1's 2.85 since it's the non ELSD diff.

I know it is very easy to get caught up in all of the high tech talk of the coupe and what it has and the convertible does not have. I chose a convertible and sometimes feel like it was the wrong choice because it isn’t “the best performance.” Then you take it for a drive and realize what a badass machine it really is. Pretty sure I wouldn’t know the difference with elsd or final gearing or a few hundred less pounds. If you are going to race seriously you might care, but otherwise I like the contrast of the black top and the opportunity to put it down if you want, and there is no way I can push this car anywhere near its limits on the street, it will handle anything I have the balls for!
