It’s added to the purchase price of car and is transferable w/no deductible or special forms to file claim according to the article

And in Florida extended warranties are insurance: cancellable & pro-rata refundable...

That’s 12,000 miles a year which I believe is on the low side of the average drivers typically do.

Can this be retroactive or for new purchases only?

fake story. GM has offered extended warranties for a long time. you can buy it at anytime befor the original warranty expires. Its a GM warranty not dealer. You can go to any GM dealer and it is covered. GM pays the dealership just like any other warranty work.

I should have bought a ZL1

Not true - this is a brand-new product just introduced by Chevrolet. The oddest thing is that it carries no suggested retail price; it’s up to the dealer to set the price.

i bought 2 of these policies. one in 2010 and another in 2012. there was nothing different from the GM extended warranties that I bought. yes The more the salesmen sells it for the more of a commision the warranty salesmen gets. I paid $1500 for the 1st and $1300 for the 2nd. the add says they can charge between $1000- $2000 for it. there was 3 different warranties. a 1 year ? a 5 year 75,000 and a 7 year 100,000. The warranty didnt add 5 years to the warranty it started from the date purchased. I was offered the same on my 12 and 17 Camaros but i knew i was going to void it right off.

GM used to offer the GMPP extended warranty, it had tiers and different deductibles. Then after the bankruptcy the plan went away which is when the dealers really started pushing the 3rd party plans.

I am not a fun of the 3rd party stuff, too many variable and stuff they wont cover. I always bought the GMPP plans. I am sure eventually GM will have set pricing on their plans so that the buyer will be able to keep the dealer in check to make sure the dealer isnt raising the prices on the GMPP plan.

There's a report that some dealers are already butthurt saying GM is stepping on their toes selling their own extended warranty instead of the ones offered by the dealers.
