Help for a Newb...

Ok,

So I've finally decided to have a gaming computer built, and I've been struggling with monitor set-ups.... Full transparency, I'm looking for flight sim, and racing sim games...

So, I was thinking a big curved screen, 49 inch, 32:9 aspect ratio... That was quickly ruled out after a trip to Best Buy and about five minutes of looking at the display with a looped video proved it wont wok for me. I also cant play first person shooter games even on a flat screen as it causes motion sickness very quickly. I worked offshore for many years, rode out many storms, and cant hack the movement of first person games... Go figure... lol...

So, I thinking a triple screen set up may be the way to go.... I'm looking for suggestions on monitors or TV's that will fill the bill.... I'm not using a racing sim set up with the chair and mounts, it'll be on a desk for now.... A pretty good sized desk.... I'll be wanting to either mount the screens to the wall with a three screen wall mount, or a big footed base, rather than the screw clamp type....

So, screen requirements... G-Sync certified, at least 1440, prefer 4K, if the cost is reasonable... 27 inch minimum, and 32 probably a maximum.... though bigger if the mount is a wall mount type... I don't want the screens wrapped around me, but rather tilted in at the sides maybe 40-45 degrees.... I'm not worried about the brand so much as the G-Sync certification.

Thoughts or suggestions on screens and /or mounts are greatly appreciated... The specs are as below, so I'm guessing I can run about any set-up within reason...

Thanks in advance...

Been sim racing for years. For the $$$, I went with a single 60” OLED tv. Extremely clear and vibrant graphics on 4k. For yourself, with the motion sickness, 3 screens would help with that. To me, OLED tv screens would be cost effective over what 3 monitors would run, imho.

Thanks, I would love the size, though would it limit the Field of View to the same as a smaller screen, just on a bigger scale… or can the view be “scaled” (if that’s the term) to fit the bigger screen with an overall wider FOV???

I’m off to check out the big screen TV’s… wondering if any are G-sync certified… I’ll find out…

Thanks a bunch…

Most sims allow adjustment of FOV. Based on size of screen and the distance your eyes are from it.

Glad you decided against this. Most games do not support the ultra wide res that curved monitors have. Which means most games you'll play will have thick black lines on all four sides when in full screen. Really only good if you play in borderless windowed mode. Then you can have the game in the middle and other stuff on the sides, similar to what a streamer would have set up.

On a 27" or a 32", 4k is overkill. Stick with 2k and save some money. Because monitors are normally smaller and you sit so much closer to them than tvs, you can't really tell the difference between 4k and 2k. Though like mentioned above, I bet you can find a 32" 4k tv cheaper than you can get a 32" 4k monitor. There are more people who buy tv's than there are that buy monitors so companies have to make up for the smaller consumer base by having higher pricing.

On MSFS would this lead to smaller views of say the instruments??? I’ve only ever had flight sim on various laptops… and I’m talking old versions…

Now that’s some useful info, on the screen size 4k vs 2k… Is 2k considered the 1080p. Hell I remember growing up being told, don’t sit so close… you’ll go…. Whatever they said at the moment… lol…

So, I pulled the trigger, and ordered a trio of …

LG 32GP850-B 32-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) UltraGear Gaming Monitor, Nano IPS, 165Hz, 1ms, G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, HDR10, HDMI, DisplayPort, Tilt/Height/Pivot Stand, 3-Side Borderless Design, Black

I have my fathers desk to set them on, and initially I’ll just use the stands, and frame them close, but spread at a wide enough angle to not worry about feeling encapsulated…

I ran 3x screens for years now in various setups. Switched to a single ultrawide and never looked back. Personally, I would not want to sit 3 feet from a 40" or bigger screen.

I have yet to play a game that does not support the ultrawide.

I would not go i9 14900k. Some motherboards won't push it past i7 performance (Asus,MSI mobos). They know if this problem so probably a firmware update later on for bios. You will never need all 24 cores to play video games. They run at most 4 cores, unless your a streamer or into video editing. I run an i5 12600k with a 3080 and it's more than enough to handle current games. Just don't go ape stuff on a PC build. I also run 2 NVMe ssd's and it never sees the 7000mb/sec read. More like 4800.
It's more of bragging rights than anything and a waste of money. I use a Samsung g5 monitor and it caps out at 166fps for games like destiny 2 and other steam games. If your a die hard PC gamer and going to invest in some serious fps, the 4070ti would be best IMO. You will never see 4k at 200fps. Your PC will tell you that, but anything past 120, you will not notice since human eyes can only detect 30. Just trying to help you out. 3 monitors or go VR oculus/meta 3 is more than plenty.

Oh I appreciate all the info here… I do some video editing, occasionally, and other than that I’ll be playing flight sim and some racing video games… I did go with three monitors, listed above, and I had already ordered the computer… Yeah I kinda went off the deep end, though I’ve almost always been like that… I did opt for the four years of in home complete care so if there are issues with the motherboard or any other aspect, they can come fix it… I’ve always had great luck with Dell so time will tell…

Thanks for chiming in…

Man, I looked long and hard at the AW monitors… I can’t use a curved monitor and I wasn’t sure about an ultra wide flat panel… so I went with three 32 inch single edge monitors… so mostly seamless transition from one to another….

Thanks for the input…

I also play MSFS 2020 and DCS. DCS is more of military air combat type of game vs MSFS is just to relax and take in some views. My 3080 gets on MSFS 1440p with high settings about 90fps, which is pretty good for what I have. DCS is same and get about 97fps. I also use an oculus quest 2 to have more of an experience.
If you haven't gotten any hotas as of yet, I highly recommend the Logitech X56 Rhino. It's pretty sweet with some Amazon desk mounts. The winwing stuff is pretty neat, but $$$. Also have the Logitech rudder pedals and thrust master Cougar MFD's. I prefer fighter jets and easy to bind keys.

The images below are what I ordered… There was a different HOTAS set that was about twice the cost, but I didn’t see the need for that. If they basically function the same… I used a Logitech twist control stick forever, and mouse and keyboard inputs for anything else… So in addition to amazing scenery and flight options, I’m looking forward to the challenge of learning all the new controls…

What I’m really hoping at some point, is to find a B-24 Bomber aircraft to add to the stable of planes in either DCS, MSFS or any other where I might be able to download it.

My grandfather flew B-24’s in WWII and that would be a thrill for me to “retrace” some of the missions strictly for the views… He flew Omar Bradley around North Africa on several flights… I have the entire set of B-24 flight manuals as given to the pilots for their training. It details every area of the warbird, and operational considerations for each. I peruse those occasionally just out of an interest…

That's pretty neat. Thats the same setup I have except for the racing wheel setup. The thrust master Cougar MFD's are fantastic for DCS.
I need to do some wire management, sorry.

Far as MSFS goes, I use one of the throttle switches for nose wheel steer NWS, lifesaver when using VR. To the left which is barely visible is my G1 Transformers original toys back from 1985-1987. Love them
