They still got Shelbys on the floor.

The next CTS V should make it interesting.

I'd really like to see Dodge put some wider tires on the Hellcat. Maybe they'll do it as a mid year change so we can actually see what that car is capable of. It sucks that Dodge cheaped out on the easiest upgrade, tires.

I'm guessing that it would have required major body modifications to go wider. As you say it isn't that hard.

they ran 305 drag radials for their NHRA time. I think I read some blurb about them wanting to run 275s square for handling? If that makes sense. More than likely, they just wanted owners to have two spare burnout tires on the front.

Supposedly they rolled the (front?) fenders a bit to get the stock tires to fit.

Yeah fender flares are cheap. That's all GM did. Seems simple enough to me

Not just fender flares. You will need wider wider wheels, as the 305s or higher need at least a 10 inches. Would be nice though.

Not to be a smart ass but no kidding. That isn't modding the car. And really, I'm not trying to be a smart ass.

They do this all the time: last year's model vs the new model

Why not use a 1969 ZL-1 then?

Was there really a lot of performance changes from one year to the other? I don't think there were any significant changes.

This is why I don't think GM should put a lot of effort into chasing HP... 3.7 secs vs 3.9 in a 0-60 isn't much difference.. But then ZL1 is better on the track.. I like the direction that GM is going in by building all around sports cars.. Performance is more than a straight line..

This is so COOL!! I love to see these head to head comparos. Too bad they didn't bring a Shelby along as well. Salad days my friends...the salad bar will be closing one day so buy your ticket if you haven't already.

It does seem interesting, and I was pleasantly surprised, that the Hellcat didn't mop the floor with the ZL1 like I thought it would.

The thing I found most interesting in the article was that they seemed that is was so amazing that the Hellcat was getting all the attention over the ZL1. Well, IMO, it kinda makes sense, but that aspect seems to escape the author. You roll up in a silver Camaro ZL1 that has been around for a few years already, and then pull up with a bright, lime-green Hellcat that nobody's ever seen before. Who would you think would get the most attention?

But it won't be too long before other R/T or SRT owners start poking the Hellcat parts on their cars, too, so that look will be out there more and more as the "look" gets back further into the crowd.

0-60 is really an antiquated measure of performance. It is typically traction limited. 1/4 mile times and trap speeds are much more useful in measuring straight line performance. The Challenger will pull noticeably harder than the ZL1, and it shows up in the 1/4 mile times. I still would take the ZL1 though.
