Empire State Building Shooting

Story developing. No idea on the why's yet. 2 killed (1 was the shooter) and 8 wounded. Just don't understand these sort of acts.

I hope our New York brethren are safe.

New York (CNN) -- At least five people were shot Friday in front of the Empire State Building, authorities said.

The gunman was shot and killed by police, the New York Police Department reported.

Authorities converged on the building around 9 a.m. after reports of gunfire.

Police have closed several several streets around 5th Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan.

New York resident Max Kaplan, 22, said he heard at least nine gunshots. He said several ambulances have arrived at the scene.

"We're all very shaken up at the office," he said.

The Empire State Building is one of the most famous skyscrapers in the world, and one of New York City's best-known tourist attractions.

Each year, about 4 million people visit the building's two observation decks. At more than 1,453 feet tall, the landmark building reaches more than a quarter-mile into the sky.

This is very sad news.

I'm getting tired of hearing about people going out and taking out as many people as they can. What is wrong with people these days?!

It seems there have been mass shootings every other week lately!! What a crazy world we live in now!!

It looks like the situation was personal. It is refreshing to actually read an article about a shooting AND IT ACTUALLY CONTAINS a LOGICAL motive. This is very rare.

"The shooter was one of the two killed, according to investigators. They identified him as Jeffrey Johnson, 56, who was laid off last year and apparently killed a former co-worker near the building, shooting the 41-year-old victim in the head. Clad in a business suit and carrying a briefcase, police say the gunman apparently had a longstanding dispute with the victim over allegations of harassment in the work place."

I think ill take the insurgents with their rockets and their mortars...at least here we know whos gunning for us.. the US seems to have gone mad lol.

It may sound wrong but seriously, if people are unable or unwilling to get help . . . . Why don't people just off themselves.

Why put people who have nothing to do with your troubles in harms way. Although this appears to be personal (former co-worker), it still put people not related to the situation in harms way. Results . . . many people are hurt (directly and not so directly) and for what???

Why is it that at every mass shooting lately, there is never a victim who was carrying a concealed weapon?

If he/she hadn't concealed the weapon then they would not have been able to accomplish what they wanted to.

This crime has nothing to do with conceal and carry rights/laws.

I heard on the radio that one guy shot a woman in the head and the when the police arrived the perp drew on the cops and the cops opened up. The 10 injured were all collateral damage caused by the cops.
