Galaxy S5 and Car Mode

So, the S5 has Car Mode, which lets you listen and respond to texts via the Car's audio system. On my '13 SS with MyLink and Nav, and on the wife's '14 Impala (MyLink, but no Nav), the only way this works properly is if the source is on Bluetooth.

We also have a '12 Traverse (no MyLink or Nav) and it will play through the speakers as if it's making/receiving a phone call. I'm wondering if this is more of a phone issue or a GM issue... I'm not really interested in 3rd party apps... the few that I've found either don't work fully or same problem as without...

It's also worth noting that I also tried an LG G3, even though it doesn't have any sort of car mode, I believe the problem would be the same if it did. Because there are 2 profiles when connected to MyLink... Phone audio and Media audio. None of the notifications played on the phone while connected to the car unless the source was Bluetooth. The same happens with the S5...
