I also took some measurements using a micrometer as shown. This is on my 2018 SS with the stock hood (including the felt protector underneath) as well as the cradle lowering spacers as I posted pictures of before.

Long story short, she appears to be a tight squeeze. I had spoken to Grant at TooHighPsi a while back and he mentioned that even their low profile plates are 8/10ths of an inch thick. Looks like machining the intake runners is the way to go unless I'm missing something.

Hope this helps.

Nice work Norm! Very helpful!

It appears that this confirms spacers are not needed on an SS. I know you’re running them, but the spacers are 0.375” if I’m not mistaken. So even the tightest spot was 0.631” with the spacers installed…so without the spacers you’d still have nearly 0.300”. And that’s with the hood liner too. Just my thoughts.

Edit: Also, I agree on the runners needing to be machined. They were obviously designed to accept port injectors since the bosses are cast in. And since the runners can be easily separated and shipped out for machining… no brainer. Adding plates would be crazy IMO.

Thanks Norm as you have the same hood as Josh I believe. My hood configuration is different, but I will still measure for peace of mind on Friday.

Agreed... I am still waiting on Katech to finish his preliminary work and find out the costs as he is offering this service soon!

Same my friend, I am going to reach out to Mike today to see how far they think they are out. At some point I gotta make a call to keep just direct or keep waiting to keep my build going. You only get a few months a year in NY to drive before winter comes back lol.

I am also checking to see how I can combine the Smoothboost controller I bought with the TooHighPSI port controller I have. Lots of wiring to do still.

Did you put the Smoothboost on the 3.0 yet? I know Smoothboost does not have the bracket to mount the actuator to the new blower yet. Shouldn’t be too hard to make one up custom I guess.

Josh, I got a hold of Levon at Smooth Boost and he sent me the Edelbrock blower bracket. i did a quick install and it fits but I have not function tested it., will check to see if I have pictures somewhere. I have a variable DC power supply on its way to use to for testing purposes instead of cutting into my harness for the gas pedal.

I am going to call TooHigh today to see if I can use one of the outputs from their relfex controller to provide the 1.5-5V signal to the smoothboost controller.

More to come.

Port injection machining is live!

I'll try to grab a few pictures showing the disassembly process when I get time as well.

So basically you'll have around 900.00 with shipping to and from Katech. Reflex Controller 1200.00 plus plumbing, fuel rails and injectors. So it's going to be similar to buying a complete kit from THPSI, but the plates would make it tough because they are 3/4 inch and the 3.0 is so much taller, you'd need the cradle spacers to clear the cowl. Seems like a great option and a fair price, nice job from the guys at Katech and Whipple for having the additional bungs to add the injectors.

Be careful…I think the Smoothboost actuator shaft as delivered for the 2.9 is too long based on my initial mock up. The 3.0 vacuum bypass is definitely shorter than the 2.9 version was. I sent Levon some detailed side-by-side pics yesterday but haven’t heard back yet.

Nice work Mike! That’s definitely in my future later this year.

Thanks for the heads up Josh. I sent the blower to Kong for porting so I’ll mess with it when it gets back.

Just sent my intake runners to Mike for the PI as well. Thanks for putting that program together Mike.

Here’s what I’m talking about in regards to the actuator length:

Has anyone posted results with the 3.0L yet?

My customer finally dropped the car off today. He decided to upgrade to a Fore triple and Cordes ice tank. We're going to shoot for max blower speed and see what it makes.
