Why is it so hard to get your IPO part returned?!?

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get my OEM take off wheels back from my dealer. The car I purchased came with the 56H IPO wheel option. They insist they don't have the wheels and that they do not owe me anything in addition to what has been delivered.

I called Chevrolet customer assistance and they contacted the dealer and then just parroted what the dealer had told me. I refused to accept the answer and the issue has been escalated within customer assistance.

Is there anyone out there who has gone through this and has something from GM/Chevrolet that is definitive on this issue? Something that I can show back to them so they can reference an internal policy or procedure?

Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks.

*LPO.

And I have done this in the past, and gotten BOTH sets of wheels. That is why it is $2000 not $200...you get two sets.

The original wheels are part of the MSRP on the car. You're paying $2,000 more for an additional set. Unless you signed some sort of special agreement with the dealer themselves to give you credit for the original wheels, you're owed the stock set.

I'd look up the GM regional manager/rep and give them a call about this, because this is essentially theft.

Funny you posted this. After reading on this forum, I realized I should have received my original rims back as I had dealer installed rims.

After doing some talking with Chevrolet customer service, and my dealer, look what I got!

Nick,

Didn't sign anything besides standard paperwork. I got such a great deal on the car but they are so difficult to deal with after the fact.

Nick, thanks.

Which wheel LPO wheels did your car come with?

Nick, that sounds like a nice config. I haven't seen any in the NYC area with them.

I replied. Don't give up - if they were dealer-installed rims, those originals are at the dealership and you just need to talk with every department until they cough them up. Took me talking with the parts department who actually handled storing the rims.

Posting an update. Still going back and forth on this. Customer Assistance has said they're done and can't help me. This is a dealer/customer issue. They directed me to go back and talk to my sales manager.

This is BS. I have to go back and argue with the guy who gave me multiple stories about why they dont have the wheels.

Customer Assistance also told me only the dealer can give out the regional sales managers number.

Not liking this purchasing experience. Good think I love the car!

But the dealership model benefits the customer and should be legally protected with laws to force all car manufacturers to play the same way!

Went to assembly plant for the factory fest tour. Saw a car with red wheels on it. Looked like total crap, so I asked what was up with them. Employee said they were shipping wheels used for lpo wheels. Apparently they get returned to plant after lpo install. So based on that, the dealer wouldn't have any stock wheels to give to customer.

GM support will not help in this matter, its the dealer that is basically robbing you and screwing you over. You need to get a hold of the regional manager. But try to speak to whoever deals with LPO's at the dealership, should be the bodyshop.

Next time, find a trustworthy dealership. I have sold many cars with LPO's and I always make sure my customers get their original equipment back, and yes, you are due a full set of the standard silver 5 spoke wheels.
