No 7th gen?

Just saw this speculation:

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...meplate-to-die

That would stink if it pans out. I guess only mid engined vettes will be in our future if we want to buy new GM muscle in the next decade.

That's sad but with those sales numbers it makes it an easy choice unless the refresh really takes hold. Maybe all the people who want one have bought one or they'll go the Dodge route and just keep the platform as an option...no matter how dated it is.

Saw this, its just a rumor for now but if it happens is very sad. Maybe they will release an all-electric "Camaro" just without the name attached to it.

Who knows, It will be interesting to see it develop over time.

Had heard last fall that Mary killed all programs for Camaro, and as you know Al was moved to electric R&D. You can only hope she retires and Mark takes her place, otherwise she is moving towards a service company.

This makes no sense. Their closest competitor is continually making Mustangs with no end in sight. They never cancelled their model, yet Chevrolet seems to stumble from time to time.

It is a shame to kill such an excellent car, but for one reason or another Chevrolet seems not to know what to do with Camaro.

Yes. It's a better car than both the Mustang and the Challenger in SS/GT/Hemi trim for comparison, but for whatever reason Chevy can't convince buyers. Maybe it's just personal preference, or folks who want a base model gravitate toward the Challenger or the Mustang.

I wonder what comparison sales of only V8 performance models looks like? I don't know if that data is out there in the public. That could be an interesting comparison.

Perception is a big issue as well. Many people that know Camaro also knows that a $50k asking price for one is really out of the question. Not that the car and its components aren't worth it, but its the reality of cars in the present day. Any car with substance will be costly, and Chevy buyers are not used to paying higher prices for their models.

Chevy and GM will need to do a better job in convincing buyers that their products are worth the asking price.

I think the refresh has a lot to do with it. The performance is there and though the price point could be questionable, people will pay for the complete package. Meaning if the car looks bad ass then people will more likely buy it. If the cars looks and design is questionable like the current refresh then people may not be taken by the car. Not to mention the huge negative response that the 19's got on the refresh. People won't buy a car if its ugly is basically what I'm saying. And I dont mean to offend anyone who owns a 19' refresh but the majority consensus is that the refresh isn't well liked.

A good example would be the Dodge Challenger. Dodge is still using the same design and platform since they brought back the Challengers and yet they are currently outselling the Camaros. I think that Chevy should have kept the overall design of the 5th gen going but on the current lighter platform. Maybe do some slight changes like different hoods, diffusers, and splitters (like the Challengers) because apparently its still working out for Dodge. Not to mention marketing. Look at all the commercials Dodge has for their Chargers and Challengers.

The Camaro team should ask themselves where'd they go wrong and listen to the die hard fans and Camaro lovers. Just my 2 cents.

I've said it a few times on here in the past:

GM made a crucial mistake by simply making the 6th Gen an EVOLUTION of the 5th Gen and charging ~$10k more.

Every new generation of Camaro has always been a complete departure from the prior. Generations 1-5 look nothing like the model that preceded it. I believe, GM figured that the 5th Gen sold so well, they'd simply take it and improve on that vehicle. They did just that, but people like to see something new and awe-inspiring. I look at the 6th Gen as more of a 5.5 Gen.. Sure, the chassis, engine, interior, etc., are all new, but the appearance is strikingly similar. Then, on top of this, you add ~$10k to the price and you have a recipe for disaster. People that aren't particularly "car nuts" look at the 6th Gen and ask, "Why is this so much more $$$, when it looks just like the old one?".

This will be a dumb move on GM's part if they actually go through with it...

If it's true then just go wild with the last of the 6th gens... bring back the Z28, drop the LT5 in the ZL1, go out with a bang... etc.

I agree with you 100% no offense to the GEN 6 owners but the GEN 5 body look so much better to me over the GEN 6. Chevy should have kept the GEN 5 body even if they condensed the size scale and just worked refining it just as Dodge has done alone with increase the engine output.
