I broke a latch on my airbox

I was checking my Camaro to get it ready for warmer weather and broke one of the latches off the factory airbox. 100% my fault, I didn't get the lid lined up correctly and pushed down to hard in temperatures were the plastic was likely brittle.

The airbox seems to still close and seal ok. I'm wondering if I should rig up a replacement latch or just pony up for a new airbox. I see they are about $120 new for the whole OEM assembly. I guess it could be an excuse for a CAI, but I don't plan to do an aftermarket exhaust for the car so that's probably wasted money.

$120 seems like a small price to pay for your mistake.

Others will have to weigh in on whether you need a tune after installing CAI, and whether there's a risk of ingesting water when driving at high speeds in the rain.

I think the only CAI you need a tune for is the Vararam. Ran my K&N blackhawk intake without tune for a while with no issues. Also heavy rain is no issue even with my ADM air scoop in the lower grill.

...you know, since duct tape comes in a variety of colors these days that could be my fix AND customization at the same time.

Thanks, I'll consider it. Despite the appeal of the duct tape mod, I'll probably troll through some scrapyards and see what I find.

In the grand scheme of things, I suppose so. That'd buy a lot of duct tape, though...

Drill a pilot hole in the top of the box next to the latch and run a 1/4" TEK screw through it. Once threaded cut the tip off the screw. Use a nut driver for the old in and out.

I went through three airboxes on mine because the tabs and inserts kept breaking off, surprised yours lasted this long. After the last one broke I bought a R2C intake with their black hex filter and called it a day.

On a side note the R2C gave me a 3mpg jump in fuel economy.

Indy. That's very nice of you. If I can't find something local and can resist the allure of duct tape, I'll get in touch with you. We've not been to Ft. Wayne in a while anyway and I'd not mind an excuse to visit the Hoppy Gnome again.
