"Butt Trumpets". Why ?
So today I was at a red light in my wife's Pontiac Vibe (shut up! It's a nice little car) and this noisy rusty Hyundai beside me takes off like an idiot when the light turned green, making the worst noise. Sure enough, it's yet another idiot with some kind of oversized, noisy, ugly after-market muffler super-glued to his little punter of a car.
why Why WHY do people do this? If I decide to add goodies to my car one day (for now it's still 100% stock), I might add something like headers and a different exhaust to improve airflow, but would try where possible to keep the original exhaust note or at least keep it quiet (Yes, I am one of the few who prefers quiet cars which is one reason why I love my Camaro stock). No one though is going to tell me though that these noisemakers that I see and hear so much of in the last few years does anything at all except make their cars sound like one huge long F A R T. Why spend so much money to make your car sound so bad? I could sort of see the appeal if it made 4 Cyl's sound like 8's or at least dropped the sound an octave or two, but these things do neither. Anyone considering these, please: Don't be a frackin' PUNK. |

I am one of those people that like my car as loud as possible, but I do think this only works on certain cars. Little crappy 1995 hondas... not so much.

The sound is very annoying, but never underestimate the speed of these cars. Some of them have more money into their engines than you do your home ...

I saw a tC on the way to work today. Not sure what exhaust it had, but it did not sound deeper than a V6. It sounded like a frackin' RC model airplane.

Most of the small cars with large pipes sound like a giant FART to me.
