Honest Questions?

Just bought a ZL1 A10, need the auto otherwise would have gone 1LE. Having come from 20 years of tracking BMW M3s I am surprised at the seemingly limited number of Camaro track hounds to seek car set up advice from. Is this because until the SS 1LE and ZL1 and ZL1 1LE Camaro's generally weren't tracked? Admittedly in all the years of tracking I don't recall a lot of Camaro's out there. Are there other forums that the Camaro track hounds frequent? Not being disrespectful of those that post here just observation and asking honest questions.

Up until this generation I dont feel like there were a lot of camaro track people. the car never really lent itself to being super track capable until maybe the 1LE. Now the entire lineup is trackable and decent.

The nice thing about these though is the car has a track alignment option through GM. you can go to the dealer, ask for the track alignment and thats a super easy place to start. Sometimes it all knowing where to look and who to ask

OP's only question in this thread is:

If you ignore the bulk of Trans Am racing history, sure.

As for HPDE's, I occasionally see some 4th gens that needed a ton of prep to be semi-reliable, and then a few 5th gen Z/28's. The 6th gens actually show up in reasonable numbers because it's finally a solid platform for track work.

All that said, if you're coming from a long BMW history, it's unlikely you're attending the Mustang, Corvette, and Camaro club track days, right? BMWCCA, like PCA, enjoy staying in their own bubble.

There's more at play. A bunch of us are coming from other sports car platforms. To the tune that we've been at this long enough there's no need or desire to air out our findings and development work on a public forum. That said, this particular forum is already chock full of info if you spend a the time looking for it.

I think people are just realizing they are track capable because Chevy has been more vocal about it. The Fbody was always a decent handler.

Excellent! You are right I primarily run at Road America and Black Hawk. RA is only 45 minutes from my house. Yes I do run a lot with BMWCCA and PCA and instructed with both for years. These days I leave the instructing to the younger guys unless there is an instructor shortage.

There are generally quite a few non-BMWs and Porsches at the BMWCCA/PCA events. Mostly Vettes, Mustangs and "retired" race cars. There is always one older (70s) Camaro race car, Got Fetta racing. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hey Todd,
How 'bout sending me your HPDE schedule ?
I have a rough draft on Excell but would like to see how it coinsides with your events.

I wouldn't mind seeing that too. I did two days at Road America last year and had a blast, along with one day at Autobahn. Can't wait for it to warm up!

We are definitely around. Some of us even track the 6th Gen SS. I ran with the PCA club for one event last year, along with the 4 NASA events and the one HOD event at NCM Raceway.

My first event of this year is next month. I have to get some miles on the new shoes to get them down past the harder outer part.

Hey Dennis!! Hope you're doing well!

Too funny.....I sent you my schedule in an email at around 4PM today before I had seen this post. Sent several emails to you and some of the other guys we run with this afternoon.....was daydreaming about being on the track and looking at my schedule always helps.

Shoot me an email back when you get a chance!
