Cats Question

If I gut all the cats I know I will get a CEL, but can I use my code reader just to erase the codes? Will the CEL come back after erasing the codes? I will still connect O2's back up after gutting them, just wondering if this will work.

Or is it better to buy the straight pipes to replace the cats?

If you remove or replace the catalytic converter your CO2 sensors will cause your car to throw the codes. Clearing the codes won't work.

So what do I have to do to not get any CEL's?

Not remove your cats. It stinks up the road for everyone else.

I believe if you remove the secondary cats you can avoid a CEL with a plug Fowler adapter. But to be 100% sure of no CEL, with all cats removed, you’d need your ECU retuned via aftermarket.

You wont get a CEL until you delete the primary cats then at that point you'll need your tuner to turn the codes off or use HP tuners.

Once the Whipple gets installed I don't want any cats, to much back pressure for a supercharger IMO. HPtuners comes with my Whipple so that will be great.

removing the converter is illegal. getting caught without one isn't.

you are right about the "up to" fine for removing it, but getting caught without it will usually just get you a smog ticket or the like, which even then can be overthrown if you reinstall one.

What part of OK?

I do like the lack of emission testing, but I do wish there was a bit more vehicle inspection required. The number of people without working tail lights here is obscene.

no working taillights huh. I think my cars are the only ones here that have blinkers that work.

The whole state. This is straight from the OK DMV.com website

Oklahoma is one of the few states that do not require emissions checks for motor vehicles. An emissions inspection is not needed to register a vehicle in Oklahoma, irrespective of the age of the vehicle.

I'm also gutting both sets of factory cats and reinstalling. It is very easy to kill the trouble codes with HPtuners.
