I thought a majority of the problems were narrowed down to 2017 and early 2018’s. I would buy used if mint but probably go warranty. I sold my car last year with 12k mostly highway miles. Just needed tires but was in excellent shape.

If it’s absolutely the car you want I would buy it and replace the pump. Just factor in the cost and ride with no worries.

Thanks for all of the replies and information. I have thought that if I went the 18-19 route just get the Katech unit and be done with it. Still looking at potentially buying new as well if I can find a dealer willing to cooperate.
I do appreciate the help and knowledge hopefully be in one by beginning of summer. Key word there is “hope” lol. |

Yea, but its a bit more than that. It was serious enough that GM released a tech bulletin about it. They didn't issue a recall because it doesn't affect safety. There is no question that the 2017 and 2018 models suffer from this issue, its not if but when.

Although we may never know the full answer, I wonder how many of these with issues were owned by people who really beat on their car and figured they were just gonna trade it in or ditch it at some point so it didn't matter to them. I mean, my goal from the start was always to keep mine forever. So I treated it as such. No burnouts no hanging off the rev limiter no 4K RPM drops at the track no constant WOT runs etc. I wonder how much of this has a part. Because not for nothing, but when the 17s and 18s came out, there sure were a lot of videos on FB and YT and IG of people buying these cars brand new and roasting the tires right there on the dealership lot or at home with like 17 miles on the clock. It's diminished a lot since then. All of these may be factors. Because I and several others I know who have treated our ZL1s like we planned to keep them never had these issues. |

OP I wouldn't get one of them simply because you don't know how many people beat on them. People seem to lose all common sense when they get behind the wheel of these types of cars and they start beating the snot out of them. Personally I would buy a new one or maybe a 1-2 year old version with low miles and a full warranty still intact. I'd only buy a 17 or 18 if I had plans to do some extensive mods...since you can get one of those for cheaper and you'll be blowing the warranty anyway.

I like Blaq Whole don’t beat on my 2017 with over 22,000 miles and let the engine warm up throughly before romping on it. I also use the recommended 5W30 oil when changing it. My drivetrain warranty is done so keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t have any issue with the pump or engine.
