20 Best New Cars You Should Buy... Corvette #1.

From Consumer Car News

And at the top of the list is:

-----
1. Bad Ass: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

http://consumercarnews.com/1-bad-ass...ette-stingray/

Base price range: $54,995-$86,000 (estimate)

America’s sports-car icon was reinvented for model-2014 and extends its reach into supercar territory for model-year 2015. As the first genuinely all-new ‘Vette since 1997, Chevy judged this eighth-generation significant enough to reapply the Stingray badge it wore during its big-block heyday in the1970s. Most everything else looks squarely to the 21st century.

It starts with the styling, a repudiation of the car’s organic forms for a stealth-fighter shape with air-managing angles that keep it on the pavement at triple-digit speeds. A riot of ducts, every one functional, circulates air to engine, transaxle, and brakes. The frame is aluminum and while the main bodywork remains fiberglass, the hood is lightweight carbon fiber.

Coupe and convertible body styles return, both with a two-seat interior clad in grades of leather, padding, and grained plastic that finely justify the car’s price. The convertible’s power fabric top can be raised or lowered while driving at up to 30 mph. Both body styles have enough cargo room for a couple’s long weekend or a pair of small golf bags. This remains proudly a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive automobile, and its overhead-valve V-8 stays true to Corvette heritage.

The base unit displaces 6.2 liters and generates 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, good enough for 0-60 mph in 4 seconds flat. Tempting options include the Z51 package that sharpens handling and grip beyond levels that are already racecarlike. A performance exhaust system adds five horsepower. And GM’s adjustable magnetic shocks are available to improve ride control. Added for model-year 2015 are ultra-performance Z06 versions of both body styles. Their supercharged 6.2-liter has 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque making them the most powerful production cars ever from GM. Look for 0-60 in the low-three-second range. The Z06 bodywork is further aero-optimized and includes adjustable front and rear airflow-controlling components. The fenders are wider by 2.2 inches and in front and 3.2 in back to accommodate competition-grade tires. Carbon-ceramic brake rotors are available.

All ’15 Vettes have a seven-speed manual transmission. Base models can be ordered with a eight-speed automatic, and the Z06s can now be optioned with an eight-speed automatic as well. Both automatics have steering-wheel paddle shifters. It’s actually a half-inch shorter stem to stern than a Porsche 911 Carrera but the Corvette seems outsized nonetheless.

It’s bold and bad and of course it’s not for everyone. Partly it’s a matter of attitude and self-image, not to mention the size of your wallet. But it cannot fail to ignite the emotions.

I thought the C7 body was a composite plastic and not fiberglass, or am I wrong?

My quess:
The public does not understand fancy words. The public still think of Corvettes being "fiberglass". Boats are the same way nowadays with VEC technology composites.
